My distro of choice is Ultramarine.
After nearly 9 years on macOS, as a result in devices provided by work for web dev and my own laptop being very dated, I am slowly returning to Linux on my personal machine.
I played around with a few distros back in the day and stuck mostly to Ubuntu, must have been around the time of the Gnome 3 release.
Always dual booted with Windows.
In the meantime I used Linux on servers, VMs, and a NAS, always with a DE.
Deeply researching what distro I wanted to use now, discovering new projects and approaches, Ultramarine caught my eye.
The benefits of Fedora (currently my preferred “ecosystem” over Ubuntu/Canonical) with the ease of Linux Mint.
Also love the ease at which desktop environments can be switched.
I want something reliable that is not ancient and stays for years on LTS versions of tools. The goal is to be close to the bleeding edge without cutting myself.
As soon as it is fully set up, it should allow me to move as fast as macOS allowed me to do.
I am surprised it is not more well known or recommended broadly, especially to newcomers and first-timers.
For me there is no benefit of using Fedora over Ultramarine, as it makes the setup much easier and faster. Especially, since switching is possible. The only thing could be the slight lag behind the Fedora release cycle.
While gaming on Linux should be far enough along that I can play games with my little brother again without resorting to Windows. I might still dual-boot it, so I can stay on top of its development which can help with client work or to debug OS-specific issues.
I might try to play around with a Hackintosh setup, though I assume that it got more impossible/incompatible with the architecture switch to ARM.
