2nd Gen Event: Concerning Trend - Quantity over Quality?

I don’t think it was really their fault with LPCAMM not being supported, considering its current max speed is 7533 and framework does not have the infrastructure to develop a RAM fab

Turns out the Chromebook FW is discontinued. Didn’t know that

On the plus side…Coreboot! So it’s still getting software support externally. And parts availability is likely still good…for now.

Interesting, yeah, I wasn’t aware of that either. I’d love to know how many they sold; perhaps not many if there was little uproar over discontinuing it. When that one was introduced, I really didn’t get it (I thought I wrote something about it back then, but can’t find it now). When most Chromebooks are sold for ~$200, pricing one at 4-5x that is wild. And if anyone was going to spend that much on a laptop, I don’t know why they’d prefer ChromeOS over a full-powered Windows or Linux distro.

Anyway, at least it seemed low risk to use most of the existing Framework 13 parts. I share the concerns about now having the Framework 12, 13, 16, and Desktop with a lack of interchangeable parts. I would have much preferred to see just more options for the 13.

I feel they are being completely honest about trying and having technical limitations. Sometimes this happens.

I think that if they grow more, the chip partners will work closer with them and this will lead to even better products, better pricing, more interesting and useful tech.

If all configurations were available available as Chrome OS variants, I would likely have chosen it for the Coreboot support.
