After last Windows update Bluetooth has disappeared (AMD 13)

Hi All,

My works laptop (Framework 13 AMD) had a required (by IT) update for windows (23H2) and since then I have lost bluetooth. I checked device manager and no bluetooth device is listed and I have one usb device with a problem:

I have unplugged everything from the computer so it isn’t a USB device that I have plugged in, it also isn’t the camera or microphone (checked both of those still work).

Because its a works laptop I can’t just try reinstalling the driver. I just wanted to check if there was a known issue that would be solved by reinstalling the drivers.

Many thanks for any assistance

Reinstalling the Framework driver back should put the correct driver back in place. Windows Update might have tried updating that driver stack and just put the wrong one in place.

Basic Windows stuff

It might seem that way but this has to do with Framework’s integration with the Windows update infrastructure. Windows is simply trying to be helpful, and due to a lack of information is installing the wrong drivers. These updates can be pinned and prevented and this is usually part of a baseline provisioning configuration.

Not nitpicking. This is small potatoes in the grand scheme of what Framework is trying to accomplish!

You can prevent windows from installing drivers updates by setting Do not include drivers

I have a FWLT 13 AMD running Windows 11 23H2 and I always install any drivers Windows Update suggests and everything including Bluetooth is still working great for me.

How did you end up resolving this? This just happened to me on 24H2 and I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the driver several times and attempted to download a new version of the driver but none of that has worked. Bluetooth is completely dead like it was removed from the operating system.

If I have something with an error (typically a yellow triangle), in Device manager, that indicates it’s not working, I find the best thing to do first is to right-click the error item and choose “Uninstall device”. Then do not choose “Attempt to remove the driver” unless you are 100% sure the driver is no good, instead just click OK.

After that, you need to let the device be re-detected and hopefully the driver will install correctly. Usually just clicking Action / scan for hardware changes, or pressing the “scan for hardware changes” button is enough for the driver to install again, hopefully correctly this time.
Some devices will install as a different incidence of the same type of device and may need settings checking, for example a USB COM port might change from being COM2 to being COM5 or something like that.
