Hello, I was looking for some sort of mobile/gamer laptop. I don’t want to get a full laptop thats unupgradeable since I find enjoyment in upgrading my parts and specing out PCs. I was looking for a laptop that I could dock with an EGPU, but I’ve heard that the EGpus suck since they only have 4 lanes instead of the full 16. Then I came to Framework since they have good laptops that are repairable, but then I realized I would never be able to dock my laptop and get the full power of my EGpu. Is there any laptop that has a semi-modern CPU and an old GPU, so I can play multiplayer games at decent settings with ease. Then the ability to dock the laptop and get the full 16 lanes and be able to run those games at high settings with ease and also be able to run video editing software and CAD smoothly
Eh!
I wouldn’t say Frame.work is a “ultimate mobile gamer” laptop. There are many other manufacturers with better dGPUs. 7700S is a low/mid-tier.
I’m not really looking for an Insane dGPU. I’m looking for an alright cheap sustainable dGPU, and a banger eGPU that can be fully used once I reach my home.
I would say it’s good enough to play everything at high or highest at 60fps or more, depending of the game.
It might not be the best for 4K high/highest, but I have no clue, I don’t like 4K gaming
With a smart use of RSR and AFMF2 you can get pretty high fps in modern games.
I have the 7700S, the 7840HS and 32GB in dual channel, and with the 180W charger I get 100-120FPS in Helldivers 2 using a combo of medium/high settings, playing in 1920x1200 upscaled with RSR and using AFMF2.
Without AFMF it goes 60 ± 5 fps. The AMD tech is a godsend IMHO.
- RSR makes some text and textures looks weird to me
- Overall Frame Generation from AMD or Nvidia is annoying, it introduces input lag (as your native fps are lower) and it creates some visual glitches and blurriness (because AI is not magic)
FSR is the only it actually improves things. I can play with dGPU or iGPU the same games, just toying with FSR Quality or FSR Performance.
