Hello! I just started on modeling a framework 13 tablet that would be able to fit all the parts of the framework 13 (and pro, and different mixes of audio board, speakers and batteries) except the input cover.
The idea was to flip the top cover and display that’s gonna be attached to the 3d printed chassis upside down to get the needed length for the eDP cable. however it seems that I would either be cutting it very close or it wont reach at all. Without the parts on hand I can’t really check either.
After searching around it seems more complicated than it seems to simply extend or swap out this cable. So any insights or ideas would be much appreciated before I completely shelf the idea of using the original display/eDP on this project.
Sounds interesting. I can’t help with this, but we seem to have some modders here. Have you any CAD or ray-traced images you can show to illustrate your key challenge?
well thanks to This post I now know the cable is indeed not long enough. and so far I’ve yet to find a way to extend it. Only way I would be able to get it to reach is basically designing it by having the screen on the underside like the framework 12 in tablet mode. This however cover the vents. so I got a different question now.
Would opening up the side that are normally under the input cover as airflow vents give adequate cooling? I dont know how these fans work and if this side only pushes out air or not.
Edit: To simplify my question. can the fan on the mainboard pull air from both top and bottom?
As long as the fan shell is open at both sides. And pictures do show the top open on the 13 and 13 pro fans. Blower fan blades always seem to be uniform, without a difference top or bottom.
