Curious on whether anyone has feedback from experience using a WD_BLACK 2TB SN8100 NVMe SSD anywhere, or even in a Framework Laptop 16. I’m hoping it will work fine in a Laptop 16 AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 Series / Linux when it delivers. (I’m looking to pick one up during the Black Friday deals.) I understand that it should have lower power consumption and still be a pretty speedy drive.
(…looking at paired sticks (probably 2x16) of Crucial DDR5, too.)
Putting one of the best pcie5 (if not the best) ssds into a laptop that can only do pcie4 seems like a bit of a waste.

I’m using a “WD_BLACK_SN770M_2TB” and a “WD_Blue_SN580_2TB” with zfs mirror in my laptop, they’re working really nice
Thanks Adrian! I hadn’t considered the PCIE gen. Compatible, but Gen4 speeds. It’s currently (not Black Friday deal prices) at the same price as FW’s SN850x, but then again BF price for the SN850x will also be lower!
Well if it’s a choice between an sn8100 and asn850x at the same price it’s kind of a no brainer but you should probably look into other options too. In my market the sn8100 is about double the price/tb of decent gen4 tlc based ssds and even more compared to qlc ones.
