Anything fan maintenance I could do

A while ago my fan started being a bit louder. I opened the front cover, took a a little air blower and de-dusted properly and it was immediately better. However I feel like it still does not sound as good as as when it was new. It’s hard to describe, but I have it for almost 3 years, so I know this machine well.

I wonder if there’s anything else I can do? I’ve seen people adding a drop of machine oil to rattling standalone desktop fans, etc. If the part start failing in the future, what do I do?

  • Can I realistically disassemble the fan to clean it well inside and lubricate?
  • Can I order the whole fan upfront, or do I need to order the whole MB?

You can order the fan assembly by itself on the marketplace, and it’s relatively easy to install.

Taking it apart is a trickier affair, but cleaning it thoroughly can be seen in this guide here.

Most fans that are not labeled as self lubricating or sealed bearings have an oil inlet hole hidden under the sticker. You can insert a syringe with sewing machine oil into the hole and apply just one tiny drop.
