Battery is draining and expansion slots not working

Hi,

I hope you’re doing well. I’ve been using my 13th Gen Intel Core Framework (Batch 2) for one and a half years and I’ve been really enjoing it so far. Latly though I’ve been encountering the following issues:

Battery Drain When Lid is Closed

The battery drains extremely quickly when the laptop lid is closed. This happens regardless of the selected settings (Do Nothing, Sleep, Hibernate, or Shut Down). The battery appears to discharge in a linear manner until it’s completely empty.

Expansion Slots Not Working

Most of the time, the expansion slots fail to work correctly. The laptop does not recognize USB-A or USB-C devices, nor HDMI cables. This issue occurs with all four slots. However, charging via USB-C consistently works without problems. Occasionally, the slots work after a reboot, but unfortunately, this is rare (less than 10% of the time).

Sleep Mode Issue

Sometimes, when the laptop enters sleep mode with the lid open, it becomes unresponsive to any inputs to wake it up. The only solution I’ve found is to hold the power button to force a reboot.

Shutdown LED Behavior

Occasionally, after shutting down, the power LED remains lit (e.g., as I type this, I’ve been waiting 25 minutes for it to turn off). Pressing the power button does not turn the laptop back on. I must hold the power button until the LED turns off completely, which seems unusual.

What I’ve Tried So Far:
Clean reinstall of Windows 11 with the latest updates
Updating the BIOS with the latest bundle (W11_2024_06_25)
Fully resetting the mainboard state by disconecting the Battery

My Configuration:
OS: Windows 11 Pro
Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i5-1340P 1.90 GHz
Storage: 1TB WD BLACK SN850X NVME SSD M.2 PCIe
RAM: 16GB Crucial DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM CL22 (installed in channel 0)

I’d appreciate any guidance or troubleshooting steps you guys can provide to help resolve these issues.

Cheers

Hi,

It turns out the issues were due to an oversight on my part—I mistakenly thought I had updated the BIOS, but I had only updated the drivers. After properly updating to BIOS version IFR30.03.05, all the issues seem to have resolved themselves.

Everything is now functioning as expected, and I hope it stays that way!
