Bigger Keyboard Request

Hi There Framework Team,

I’m new purchaser, here are my specs

System: AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 Series - Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370

  1. Expansion Bay Module: Graphics Module (AMD Radeon™ RX 7700S) (2nd Gen)
  2. Expansion Bay: Expansion Bay Shell
  3. Memory: DDR5-5600 - 96GB (2 x 48GB)
  4. Storage: WD_BLACK™ SN850X NVMe™ - M.2 2280 - 4TB
  5. Storage: WD_BLACK™ SN770M NVMe™ - M.2 2230 - 2TB
  6. Operating System: Windows 11 Pro (Download)
  7. Power Adapter: Power Adapter - 240W - US/Canada

Now as you can see I got pretty much all the bells and whistles. Though are some ergonomics issues that I’ve run across personally.

  • I have bigger hands and I would be more or less be utilizing this laptop more on the go or in bed and sometimes I wish to just lay down and work in a more lazy position rather than my desk when I’m not using my desktop.
  • The keyboard I wish was more full sized and took up the entire length of Framework 16 laptop.
  • I also wish for a smaller track pad or the ability to remove it and maybe have more keyboard buttons where the height of the keyboard could increase in size. I’ve found that maybe I don’t really need a num pad and just want more keys to work with and the ability not to accidentally activate the the pad. My wrists positioned in a correct typing potion overlay the top half of the pad activating the track pad.
  • I’m a larger human with larger appendages. I’m never going to use the track pad it’s essentially wasted space that could be used more for productive buttons and keys.
  • If the keyboard was more south of the keyboard my wrists arms and hands wouldn’t have to extend over the track pad creating mis-inputs.

In summery, more keyboard real estate maybe an option to remove the touch pad entirely, that’s what peripherals are for.

Thank you for listening to my request,

  • Almost satisfied customer

P.S. I would buy this item(s) if made in a heart beat. I don’t care what it’s worth.

Hey, welcome to the forum.
If I understand correctly, one of your issues with the keyboard is just that it’s too cramped for your larger hands? That keys with more spacing would be better.

If cost is not much of a concern for you, then you might be in luck. Framework has been preparing to release single key units, to enable the community to create custom keyboard layouts. community.frame.work/t/one-key-module-developer-program/78984. Once these are released you may be able to commission someone to use them to make you a custom layout with wider spaced keys.
