BPA content of Framework 12

I know the California warnings are pretty stupid, but it says that the Framework Laptop 12 contains BPA, and I want to avoid it. So my question is does it really contain BPA, and if yes, is it something that is on the outside and often in contact with the skin, or is it just some internal cable or whatever?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask that. I don’t want to bother support with it since I’m just generally curious, but I know that this is mainly a community forum.

I too would like a bit more information on this. I am guessing it is a component of a plastic component, but since the entire shell of the laptop is a plastic component, this would be good to know. If this is an internal component that is not exposed during normal use then I don’t see this as a problem. This is why I would like to know.

The warning may be because polycarbonate can decompose into bpa when overheated, not sure if they used polycarbonate on any touchable places but unless the laptop is on fire it should not be a problem.

I guessed something like that as well. Polycarbonate has a really high melting point, and if the device is ever that hot it will be melting down anyway.

Just wanted to be sure though.

I could have swore they said in one of the videos that the case was PVC. Did I mishear? Is the case polycarbonate?

I think polycarbonate is a lot more expensive, but I suppose that depends on grade, if it’s recycled or not, etc.

Apparently they use BPA as an additive in PVC so you may be onto something. But that too will only get into the environment if you overheat it and if you burn PVC you have a lot bigger issues than BPAs XD (PVC puts out extremely nasty stuff when burned).

It also doesn’t have to be the case that the warning is about, it may be something small like a connector housing or hell one of the little lever things in the keyboard or something. But if the case is actually made of PVC then that is the more likely source of the warning.
