Can you give me reasons why it's worth buying a laptop that costs over 1500?

My dad doesn’t know if it’s worth it for me to get a laptop because I already have a PC, so I need some reasons why it’s worth it for me to get a laptop.

Welcome to the forums @darky.angle666.

There are two things to consider here.

Is there a need for a laptop? I.e. doing things on a mobile computer that you can not or with lots of inconvenience vs. a desktop PC

Laptops are weaker versions of desktop or a full on computer system. Part of the price is paid in performance and portability.

Does a $1,500 laptop do things that a $500 laptop can never do? Probably not. If the OP is not using a laptop now, a $1,500 is probably more of a want than a need. Purchase a used or very entry level laptop ($300 can buy a surprisingly capable used laptop on sites like eBay) then if it truly is limiting the users potential, consider a $1,500 version.

There is a difference between wanting a $1,500 laptop and needing a $1,500 laptop. Just figure out which one is true for this case.

My experience in the distant past with really high end laptops was that they could feel kinda high maintenance just because of their overwhelming desire to not stay cool. The flip side is decently high end laptops can also allow for a number of home hobbies to well, travel with you (Especially if you have something like a laptop cooling pad to bring with you, for warmer climates.) This is nice but its more a luxury in life than anything.

If your activities are like, web browsing, art, etc. 1500 is probably outside the price range you should be targeting, there just are lower end machines that can do all of these things without the thermal output of a high end computer. If you want to run current 3d accelerated games 1500 is on the lower end for that now from what I saw. Going out and checking where the discounts were recently many of the lower end computers that would have been capable were drifting twoards 1700 just browsing around all the local places that do sell laptops… The prices were just the kinda things I looked at and shook my head at for everything. Its insanity out there in the wild. If the ram price kinda set the affordable laptop market on fire, the SSD prices detonated it… I went pale when my last desktop died at what was, to that point, the historic worst moment for it to happen.

When the prices were sane, I used to try to keep a laptop with like 60% of the capability of my desktop just for the backup potential of having two exchangeable computers. Hobby programming files and art files are a lot safer if I have one with me at home and one on the go. I don’t really consider this “Affordable” or “Wise” right now. So really consider your use cases, if you can afford to survive with what you have, things will probably get worse for a while on the near term but that doesn’t mean the near term is forever. There will probably be suitable laptops later if we don’t get forced to acclimate to the elevated prices now and forever… Things go on clearance especially when the next years models come around. That’s often a good time to go looking for devices like performance laptops.

Lastly it would be wise to consider the second hand market, sometimes people part with things in good condition before their lifespans up.
A good second hand might be exactly what you need to be looking for if your wants are performance and portability for a low cost. Honestly, current computer prices make me feel scared in a way that I haven’t felt in a long time. This makes me think even more its a good idea to take extra time to research before you consider putting new hardware out there into the world.
