I have a Framework 16 Laptop, and I have been recently having trouble charging my laptop. The charger that came with the laptop does not appear to work correctly, i have to constantly adjust how the cable sits in the plug to ensure it charges, and it pulses on and off over and over again.
Wheni replace the cable with another one, the problem persists. So I bought another charger online from a third party, it doesnt charge as fast, but it worked for a while. But today the new charger also stopped working in the same way the last one did. It doesnt matter which port i plug into, I have to constantly adjust the connection, and sometimes I cant guarantee the charger will work at all.
This affects my other laptops too (like my company provided one) the chargers do not charge that laptop either. Iām concerned that maybe my framework is somehow ruining the integrity of the chargers that I have, making them unreliable, or possibly that the USB-C Ports that came with my laptop are wearing and not fitting the cables well. But it hasnt been very long since i got it.
Any suggestions or theories are helpful! I dont want to buy another charger, but I am bummed the one i received with the laptop doesnt work anymore. They are quite expensive at 100$, which I didnt expect.
I have noticed that my charger will stop charging until I disconnect it from the wall for a minute and then plug it back in.
Most recently, Iāve it would cause an electric ātingleā on the service of the laptop. The fix is the same. It happened 3 times back-to-back. After that I set the battery to only charge up to 85%⦠It hasnāt happened since BUT the charger does intermittently break until unplugged from the wall.
I have this issue show up sometimes with my small Framework charger. Like Adam said, the issue disappears after I disconnect it from the wall and then reconnect it
Framework 16, two different (but quality) chargers and cables that both worked perfectly fine before yesterday, and now neither of them will charge it, from either of the back ports. So this is a problem with the laptop. The not charging includes plugged in with the laptop asleep overnight. Got down to 40% when not plugged in (and not charging when plugged in, or it would not have gotten that low i think) and 41%, 42% is where it is staying at.
Mostly saying āBattery at 42%, plugged in but still discharging. The power supply is not powerful enough to charge the battery. 180:50 remaining.ā
The embedded controller which talks to the charge controller may have stopped"talking" to it for some reason. Contact support to have them help walk you through the steps to find the root cause.
Alternatively, you can try hard shutting down the device and resetting the embedded controller.
Leave the computer unplugged from power. Boot into the bios screen, hold the power button down for 20 seconds then wait for 60 seconds. Then try plugging in a charger and see what happens.
I am going from memory here, I have not had to do that in a long time. Let us know how it turns out.
Iāve been facing the same issue with my partnerās framework 13 charging brick. I first thought it was the cable so tried another then I tried charging my phone, my headphones etc. with multiple cables and found that this was a consistent issue. Unless I press the cable into the charger it doesnāt charge. Youāve got to apply force to push it into the charging port get it to start charging any device. Iāve been able to sort of balance the pressure by pressing something against the cable etc. but youāve got to be careful not to even touch the cable then or it will stop charging. While trying to debug what was going on, I noticed that the USB C ātongueā inside the chargerās USB C port moves in by about 1-1.5mm when you connect a cable and comes out that 1-15mm when you disconnect. Iām now theorizing that it might be this that is causing the issue. Iām considering opening the charger to see if I can glue the ātongueā in place.
