[SOLVED]? FW 16 won't charge

Hey all! My first post here, trying to get help with my recently bought Framework 16.
Charging was fine right out of the box, then started getting a little wonky - sometimes after replugging the charger, the laptop wouldn’t charge unless i flipped the usb c connector on the power brick the other side up (yes its weird, usb c is supposed to be double-sided but ive done this to solve problems with other dongles and whatnot - and it clearly helped here).
All was fine until yesterday - it stopped charging completely!
When plugging any other charger the laptop charges for a second or two, and then stops. The FW charger does not yield anything at all. I’ve tried rebooting a bunch of times, resetting BIOS to defaults, physically taking the battery out and plugging it back in - nothing helps
I have a Framework 16 on Windows 11, without the GPU expansion, and with 3 usb c’s, a usb a, a HDMI (that’s barely working out of the box but im already on it with the support team) and a 1tb storage card
Would appreciate any help on this a ton !!

Edit: Forgot to mention - the FW charger itself seems to be functional. It charges my phone and power bank perfectly fine

Unplug the power and long press the power button for 30s. Then retry to plug the power cable.

Retry those steps until it works (it should the first try dont worry).

Thanks for the reply !! I have tried this method before (though maybe I didn’t hold the power button for long enough)
Tried this again just now and it did nothing - though the laptop is completely drained and wont power on at all so me holding the power button down just might not be going through

UPDATE: it started charging again!! at 80W according to HWiNFO (not sure what it used to be prior, never bothered to check)
what i did was:

  • unplug EVERYTHING, even the cables attached to the power brick
  • wait a couple minutes?
  • plug it back in ??

I am really unsure about all this as even now when it did start charging, unplugging and plugging the cable back in does not immediately start charging, i still have to detach the power brick from its PS cable and reattach it, then it seems to charge properly. So in the end the issue might still be there… I’ll try to reinstall the latest BIOS update and the USB and battery drivers, see if there are any issues there

Perhaps try with a different cable? It might be a bad connection of the wire to the plug or internal to the plug (?)

ANOTHER UPDATE: I think i figured it out! I remember seeing in one of the community posts regarding a similar charging issue that the FW16 really doesnt like being charged from more than one source at once. Not that I’ve ever done that, but the usb c laptop dock station could have been contributing to this.

The laptop charges fine as long as the charger is connected, or unplugged and plugged back in within a short period of time (im talking 10-15 minutes short period of time), but consistently stops charging every time its unplugged for a long period of time with the usb c dock station connected.

What helps to fix this is quite bizzare but it works: I unplug everything from the laptop (which in my case is just the dock station), unplug the charger, and then reconnect it specifically with the 90 degree end of the FW charging cable to the laptop’s port 1 (the left top most one if youre looking at the opened machine from the front, I have a usb c expansion card in that slot)
Its kind of a weird issue to run into, but it might just be a usb c thing for all I know
