For 6 SKUs. 5 prebuilt ones and 1 DIY for Framework Laptop 13. No other updates as of now.
@Destroya Given these are direct shipped, is the expectation that the US recipient will be paying whatever tariffs are in place when it clears customs? I am in batch 2 of the Ryzen AI FW13 laptops, and wondering how this is going to play out.
I was referring to the EUs tariffs, those very much are reciprocal in nature
Didnāt think Iād live to see tech being cheaper to buy in Germany than US. Donāt mean politics, I just was always so jealous of US prices on stuff (I know they donāt include VAT, but still).
Of course. First laptop I want to buy in almost a decade and this happens, right on time to ruin it. I need to get out of this disgusting country. If this means everyone else in the world gets first pass at the stock of an FW 12 and theyāre all out by the time sales are opened in the US, I just wonāt end up ever buying one at all because Iāll have been forced to move on and use something far worse for my job.
It was a nice day and a half. Thanks for getting my hopes up just long enough to remind me what a categorical mistake that always is in this miserable world. I knew I shouldnāt have bothered looking. To protect my mental health I should probably also try to forget this company even exists because we are not allowed to have good things anymore.
What is the current speculation with how tariffs will effect the already placed 13ā ai 300 preorders. Personally I placed an order for the ryzen 9 processor and I am wondering if I will now have my price changed even tough I payed my deposit of 100 dollars well before all the tariffs came into effect.
Iām cautiously speculating that the 300 series are probably their highest margin products, especially the higher end variants. That might mean they can afford cover tariffs by cannibalizing their margins, at least partially.
I also suspect investing in future generations just took a back seat, given the volatility of supply lines. Investors are probably being a bit cautious right now too, so additional funding rounds probably arenāt on the table right now. I think they will be focused on selling their hottest product in as high a volume as possible in order to keep the lights on for the forseeable future.
Totally pulling these thoughts out of my rear though, and with a heaping spoonfull of wishful thinking.
With 10%? Maybe. With 36% tariffs? I would say no way.
Maybe they can get away with passing on only 10-15% to the end customer though, thats my hope. I think theyāll do their best to keep price down and volume high.
Yes, there is no way with a tariff of 32% that startās counting in only a few hours.
Framework makes consumer electronics, and that category generally has smaller marginās, unless your Apple and those type of companies. Theyāll have to stop selling to US to secure the companyās future.
I suspect that Framework has some stock supply already in the US, as what is happening now is very predictable if you pay attention to geopolitics. If they donāt have any stock in the US, i guess we will find out tomorrow.
Iām afraid Framework has to pay the tariffs, itās not you unless they add-on the tariff when you have to pay the remainder.
The importer/sender(Framework in this case) always has to pay the tariff when importing something to a country with a tariffs on set product group(everything in this case), even if itās going directly to you.
Iām the importer if itās shipping to me. Whenever Iāve bought other things subject to import tax the courier has contacted me to pay. Framework could pay it at their end in the shipping price which would certainly be preferred.
I mean, I assume they donāt of the Ryzen AI models, thatās why the first batch starts shipping in a week or so with later batches to follow.
The problem is they typically ship directly from Taiwan. However, they may have moved as many pre-orders as possible to the US pre tariffs is possible. I am in batch 2 of the ai300 ryzen 9 I prey that mine got moved before tariffs.
Personally, Iām saving my praying for something much bigger, which could put an end to all this
Yea I have give up hope on that.
So which laptop would you go for instead? Pre-owned? I guess there will be a lot of laptops available from liquidation salesā¦
Edit: I forgot about already imported stock⦠but that canāt last for very long, can it?
In general there is no āimported stockā as laptops are shipped straight from Taiwan factory
Looks like the trend for other big companies is also to stop selling in US. The China tariff is now at 104%. Say good bye to Made in China stuff. Look at your last purchases, you may wonder how much is produced in China nowadays.
If products from China are suddenly hit with 104% tariffs, isnāt that even more reason for companies producing in Taiwan, Vietnam etc. to continue selling at a price that āonlyā increases by 30-40%?
