Hey all! First time owner and poster. Thanks for the awesome community
I recently won on eBay a very early framework 13 with an i5 11th gen mainboard, some ram, expansion cards and the full unit. It was sold as non working so fortunately, this wasn’t a surprise. The original owner expected a dead RTC circuit but I have found something different.
After doing an out of chassis test last night, I think I’ve narrowed down what’s potentially wrong with my mainboard.
All blink codes are good except DDR initialization. Upon further inspection, the memory chips get very hot very quickly. Within 30 seconds, they are too hot to touch. Specifically on the side towards the bottom of the board. This happens in both slots with all sticks I can test with regardless of configuration
Similarly, the fan starts off normal and quiet but over the course of 45 seconds it gets to full speed and pumping out hot air. So whatever short there is also makes its way back to the CPU or originates there.
I’m proficient in basic to moderate soldering and board work. I’m looking if anyone might have a good starting point to prove and prove what’s wrong. Thanks in advance!
