I bought a Framework 13 Motherboard Mystery Box recently and seem to have received an 11th gen Intel i7 (from 2021 I believe judging by some numbers on one of the chips), and it does not boot.
I’m trying to figure out if it’s defective or just missing some key part. I connected a USB-C expansion module (top-left slot) and used my current Framework charger (60w I believe). On connection I see the blinking red lights. I put in 1 stick of DDR4 laptop memory, but didn’t add any other parts, case, etc., just to initially test.
I got what I believe is the following blink codes after attempting to power on, which I matched to the reference article:
blue/white Start of diagnosis
1 red Battery connected check
2 green Power Good 3V5V supply
3 green Power Good VCCIN_AUX
4 red CPU deassert sleep S4
5 green Power boot core VR
6 green Touchpad detected
7 green Audio board Detected
8 green Thermal sensor detected
9 red Fan detected and spins up
10 red CPU reached S0 state
11 green DDR initialized OK
12 green Internal display initialized OK
yellow Start of post code section
0 green
1 green
2 green
3 green
4 green
5 green
6 green
7 green
Ignoring things like missing battery since it will be a desktop and I thought is not required to boot, I believe this is some sort of issue with the CPU (and possibly the fan although I don’t know if that blocks boot). Is there anything else I should maybe test before pronouncing it dead? I believe the board didn’t come with a RTC battery connected, but it is unclear to me if that blocks boot on this model.
