Display swapping 1st to 2nd questions

Just wanted to see if anyone has swapped out there display from a 1st gen to 2nd gen, and if so why. Was it worth the swap?

My 16 has served me well but has not had an easy life, the display has same damage from being a daily driver that travels in a backpack everyday.

I’ve been milling over picking up a new display but not 100% sure its worth the 300$ish price tag for some scratches and minor image retention issues.

The only thing I can really find on the parts page is that it has a newer firmware and if that is the case I might reach out to support to see if there’s a way I can flash mine to update the firmware just for fun. I don’t plan on getting the Nvidia GPU both due to running Linux and not wanted to support that company at the moment. This would be just to do it to see if I can get it to work without bricking stuff.

If you’re not planning to get an Nvidia GPU, then there’s no reason to get the 2nd Gen display. The only difference between the 1st and 2nd Gen is the firmware is updated on the 2nd Gen to add Nvidia G-Sync support.

I did get an Nvidia GPU, and I still haven’t switched to the 2nd Gen display. I didn’t feel like G-Sync was enough of a reason to pay for a new display…
