Okay so here goes. I own a 7700s graphics module gen 1 that I got when the initial fw16 batches were sent out, but the idea of having the better acoustics sounds amazing to me. So, while I don’t see an official guide for it, is there anything stopping me from just buying a new graphics module cover and fans and just moving the 1st gen GPU to have 2nd gen airflow?
This would be great to know.
This was discussed in the release video. Short answer is “yes”
edit: maybe this was in the post video q&a - it was somewhere..
For reference, im going to upgrade the fans in mine to do the same thing.
Yes you can. The 2nd gen has the same screw layout and connections IIRC, they’re the same except the updated fans.
You can definitely replace/upgrade any part of the Expansion Bay.
All parts (excluding the heat sink) can be found here:
No, the air slots in the chassis have changed as well to give better airflow. This is mentioned in the release video. I believe the differences are subtle, but I assume they are based on the way people were taping up some holes to get more airflow through the CPU heatsink fins.
Yeah that’s why I was thinking of getting the gen 2 chassis as well. That way I don’t have to a manual tape mod. I don’t mind if that’s what it comes too, but it feels a bit extra unless the gen 2 chassis isn’t sufficient for some reason.
Also I found this thread which seems to have a similar exploration and that Q&A which was mentioned earlier
