EFI ERROR Code: 07 Timeout when updating UEFI firmware

I have a notice on my computer notifying me of an update for my UEFI Device Firmware (bios?).

  • Which OS (Operating System)? Ubuntu
  • Which release of your OS (Operating System / Windows 10, 11)? Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS
  • Which Framework laptop (11th, 12th or 13th generation Framework laptop, Chromebook or Framework Laptop 16) are you asking for support with? Framework 13 (Intel Core Ultra Series 1)

I tried to update the bios for my laptop. If I click the update to latest, then restart my computer, I get a EFI error code 07 timeout error. I tried following both guides I found here:

However, I still get the same error.

I then realized that my board is actually already using the latest bios 3.04, by using this guide:

/how-to-check-the-bios-version-on-windows-linux-bios-ryupu8HT3

so maybe this is unrelated to the bios?

Please let me know:

  1. What device this is trying to update
  2. If I should ignore this firmware update/how to update it properly

Thanks!

I think I have the same issue as you but on Windows.
Basically it’s the retimers update that is timing out from what I gathered.
My retimers are stuck on version CF, they just won’t upgrade to 270.
Update Failed!!!
EFI ERROR CODE: 07
Firmware update failed!!!
I’m on BIOS 3.03 now.
But now I’m unsure if I should ignore this issue and proceed to 3.04 anyway or just wait for a fix.

I came across the exact same issue with no success… until I move the AC adapter from a USB-C port on the left side to a port on the right side.

I’m having the same issue with an Ultra 7 165H on BIOS 3.05. I’m running Linux. The retimers give the EFI ERROR CODE: 07 regardless of whether or not secure boot is enabled, and regardless of whether or not the update is applied using an external USB device, or through fwupdmgr. It also doesn’t matter in my case, whether or not the power cable is connected via the left or right-hand ports. I also suspect the AC adapter is not the issue, as it shows the icon for AC power when the cable is connected to either side. I’m also updating from CF to 270.
