[SOLVED] Problem updating BIOS (Framework 13 with Ryzen 7840U) from 3.2.0 to 3.3.0

Hello!
Ich have a problem with my new Framework Laptop 13 (Ryzen). I tried to update my Bios from 3.2.0 (this is the version, the laptop came with) to 3.3.0, because i want to run linux on this machine. This update has some important improvement in terms of linux support. I have Windows installed on my System right now. So the first thing i tried was the .exe file to upgrade the bios. i followed the instructions and executed the file (laptop was charging, secure boot off etc…). the file ran in Windows. Then windows shuts down. When it came back up i saw the following error message:

Update failed!!!
EFI ERROR CODE: 21
Firmware update failed!!!

So. I tought it may be caused by Windows. the next step for me was to format a Fat32 USB Stick with the official instructions of the website and booted from it.
And again… the same error message.

The next thing i tried was to remove my ssd and trie the same thing without it. Same error.

I also took the working windows ssd of my gaming pc and tried the exe again. the same message.

I contacted the framework support, but the didnt answer me yet. I wanted to try asking the community. so maybe you guys have an idea what i could try?

Things you could try out until you hear back from support (found by searching for “EFI ERROR CODE: 21” in the forum for the AMD version):

  • let the battery discharge to 80 %, connect to power, and try the update again
  • if you have another USB-PD power supply lying around, try that one
  • change the USB-C port for power (plug in, e.g., on the right instead of left)
  • make sure there’s sufficient space on your EFI partition (although that’s probably only relevant if you update from linux via lvfs)

Also, I notice you reference 3.2.0 and 3.3.0. The correct versions for Ryzen are 3.0.2 and 3.0.3. The other boards are similar. Make sure you downloaded the correct files.

It worked! Thank you very much!
The Problem was the power supply. i have an anker 735 gan charger. So i tried to use the 60w thinkpad charger of a family member. With this attached to the laptop, it worked without a problem!
