eGPU Crashing Fix

I have had an issue where my eGPU setup would crash upon going under any significant load after a minute or two. I tried everything under the sun suggested online to fix it. I was about to buy a new power supply as I had about given up on all software fixes.

However, a reddit post saved me:

However things work, by doing the above steps, it stopped my computer from completely crashing and restarting anytime I opened a game or stressed the GPU. To be accurate i think it was the redditor’s second suggestion that fixed it around usb power management options: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/108194-add-usb-3-link-power-management-power-options-windows.html as I had already done the first suggestion to no avail, and did not implement the third suggestion.

OS: Windows 11

Specs: AMD Ryzen 7 7840U 13”

eGPU Enclosure: Razer Core X Chroma

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070
This is using the most recent AMD Drivers (25.8.1).

For those curious I tried all the below:

  1. The eGPU Forums has a specific thread for troubleshooting and i tried everything in the first post [GUIDE] Win10/11 solutions for eGPU detection, BSOD, crashing, freezing and stuttering – Link State Power Mgmt, Nvidia Power Mgmt, TdrDelay/TdrDdiDelay, Disable iGPU/dGPU, Disable DynamickTick, Use AMD PCIe (3GIO) Driver, Disable Nvidia reBAR + more | Thunderbolt Windows eGPU
  2. I tried re downloading all Framework drivers and updating my drivers to the most recent release (2.06) as well as updating the BIOS to 3.16
  3. I tried different Windows 11 versions
  4. I tried 3 different AMD graphics drivers going all the way back to May when I knew I didn’t have the issue
  5. I tried using DDU (Display Drivers Uninstaller) to try to completely clear everything and re-download the drivers.
  6. I tried setting a power limit on the card but that just led to extreme choppiness before it crashed.
  7. I tried analyzing the windows event viewer for any unexpected things to no evident avail (although I don’t fully understand all it was outputting so I may have missed something)
  8. I tried disabling the internal graphics
  9. I tried running my heavy programs on monitors only connected to the graphics card (and not the internal laptop screen)
  10. I tried removing the USB expansion cards and plugging directly into the computer
  11. I tried using ports on different sides of the laptop

Best of luck to any running eGPU setups! I love mine personally

For the sake of documentation, I regret to update this with the fact that: this did not fix it, at all. I do not know what created the temporary stability, but damn, it still crashes my entire system. I think I will simply wait for more updates in the hope that it is one of those for the time being because I am tired of trouble shooting.
