eGPU nvidia + AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 w/ Radeon 890M

Windows 11 Pro
64.0 GB
AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 w/ Radeon 890M

I upgraded from a AMD motherboard to the new AI AMD chip.

Nvidia eGPU worked flawlessly before after installing the framework drivers. Now not anymore. thunderbolt from egpu, plugged in enclosure charges the laptop but cardis not recognized

I already re-installed:

gpu doesnt show up in device manager and nvidia installer doesnt want to re-install because it cant see it either.

Again worked flawlessy before replacing motherboard.

booted into BIOS but couldnt see anything specific to USB4 / thunderbolt that needs to be enabled

Should I re-install my windows since I changed the chip?

On thunderbolt there is a security (pre-desktop autneitcation) or whatever. Basically doesnt enable those unless you authorize and stuff.
I have never owned a thunderbolt .. anything. I imagine that a balloon will pop up saying “click here to authorize this and connect”. Which might be borked on AMD due to AMD reasons.
Change that to “no security”, so the device functions immediately after power on.

I dont think you need to reinstall, but maybe.

Also try plugging them into the main board USB-C directly rather through expansion cards.

thanks, Xavier. When I plug in the cable its charging so I would assume that something works. In the “Thunderbolt Control Center” manager nothing shows up though.

I reinstalled the whole system using system reset and not keeping any data.

but no luck. This is really annoying since it worked before and I heavily rely on being able to use external NVIDIA GPUs for 50% of my work.

Did you try the BIOS settings?

Could be a broken cable? I know those are like, super sensitive. And again try plugging it straight into the main board USB-C.

thanks @Xavier_Jiang I cant see any options for the above in my bios.

Have you updated your BIOS to 315 ?
Have you installed the necessary drivers for Nvidia ( Control Panel and Driver ( Studio ) ?

I had similiar issues and reinstalled windows twice already, might do it a third time but its almost working perfectly.

If you havent fixed your issue, here is what i did;

Get a Win copy from microsoft, tweak out recall and debloat Win generally. Install drivers manually first not with Win update. Have fun.

Hi @Denis_Samuel I finally managed to get it work, turned out a different cable worked. Even though my old cable worked in a older computer, I tried a different one and it instantly came up.

Hi @TTTTT ,

I just received my mainboard (same as yours) and I ran into the same issue : was perfectly working with my 1280p but can’t switch on the eGPU (razer core chroma) with the new board.

The eGPU goes in an on/off loop.

What cable brand/type did solve the problem on your side ?

(I’ve tested several TB3 cables , all working smoothly on the 1280p).
