So, I decided to create a module with overcurrent and overvoltage protection. It’s just a pass through like my original but with added protection. It’s designed for use with a 60W charger as it’s restricted to 3A and 20V. It’ll shut down if more than 3A are drawn and any voltage just over 20V will be “shunted”. It’s protected with fuses and TVS diodes, anything up to 30kV. No data lines are connected as it’s for charging only, this reduces the risk of anything making it’s way on to the data input. It’s a very basic circuit, but as long as the components are functional it should work as intended. My thinking is, any protection is better than none, especially when the pins are exposed to touch. I liken it to a pipe where you need water to flow at a certain volume and rate, if the volume increases, as in overvoltage, the excess is siphoned off down some side pipe, and if the flow rate increases, as in overcurrent, a sluice closes to cut off the supply.
