Hello friends I managed to mess up my fingerprint sensor/power button cable somehow while fixing other problems with my new F16. I successfully replaced the fingerprint sensor module and now the power button works (turns laptop on/off) as does the sensor (can record and verify fingerprints). However, the power button does not light up anymore, using either the old fingerprint module or the new one. It works, just doesn’t light up. It’s minor but an annoyance nonetheless.
Can anyone think what I might have done wrong? What sort of problem would break only the power button light and not all the other functionality? Thanks!
How did you damage the cable? Just so we can get an idea if anything else might have been damaged at the same time.
It sounds like you might have damaged more than you replaced.
You replaced fingerprint module as a whole, just plugging into the connector on the motherboard, correct? What I mean is that the module comes with two cables connected to each other, but you didn’t separate them, correct?
The led light has it’s own wires. So you can break just the connection for the led.
I damaged the cable because I didn’t know how the ZIF socket worked and I was having trouble reinserting the cable after replacing the mainboard - pushed with much greater force than necessary and damaged the cable. Serves me right. I ordered a replacement fingerprint assembly and inserted the cable gently this time.
I agree that I may have damaged e.g. the ZIF socket itself as well and that could explain the problem.
