Feature Request Megathread - Input Module

There is a cellular modem in the machine?

@Zoltan_Hoppar

I am reading this as a no

But would be an interesting option to have a cellular modemā€¦ a touch screen replacement for the numpad part, and SIP/Voip dialerā€¦

There is a LTE modem coming from a third party: https://liberatedsystems.co.uk/

Phone dock might be doable for FW16 in the style of the Motorola Atrix Lapdock, the Expansion Module has a DP in. I donā€™t know if it would be possible to just use it as a lapdock without powering on the whole computer though, with or without a firmware modification.

The Framework-16 Expansion Bay does not have a DisplayPort input. Itā€™s PCIe, USB 2.0, a bunch of power pins, and some misc control signals. Framework has the Expansion Bay connector pinout on their github. Of course with PCIe you could create any kind of active Expansion Bay module that youā€™d like. There just is no DisplayPort input natively present that you could simply tap into.

I remembered wrong.

It does for allowing the dGPU to connect to the integrated display without having to go through the iGPU.

As per that GitHub: ā€œOne is primarily for power, while the other is primarily for PCIe, DisplayPort, and other high speed signals.ā€

Pins 56, 57, 58, 60, 61, 63, 64, 66, 67, 69, and 70 all relate to the DisplayPort in.

Youā€™re right. I was just looking at it as you added that.

Thereā€™s nothing like pointing at your source, and your source saying you are very much mistaken.

ExpansionBay/Electrical at main Ā· FrameworkComputer/ExpansionBay Ā· GitHub

Iā€™ve seen people do that a lot, particularly relating to the drivetrain of the Chevrolet Volt car for some reason (and sometimes even arguing with me about what their source says when I directly quote the source).

In fairness to those people Chevroletā€™s marketing did a really bad job of explaining the Voltā€™s drivetrain (if someoneā€™s interested in a full explanation of that Iā€™d be happy to share it, but otherwise I wonā€™t type it up as itā€™s not related to Framework).

I donā€™t know if this is feasible from a software standup point. But maybe we could have a special input module with an NFC reader so that if a certain user wanted to login or access a special service/app they would have to tap the NFC module with their key. Either a keycard or a phone.

This could also be an expansion card.

If I recall, a community member has said they plan to create one.

Idea?
A module for a Sim Card for cellular internet.

As for an antenna, either a plug for external or some add-in wiring.

Wouldnā€™t count on it anytime soon. However I did just set up a wifi hotspot from my phone.
Check out PDAnet+ if your carrier hates you.

Iā€™m sure thereā€™s a pretty decent sized user base that would like to have it.

This is what I do for my current laptop.

I know I can do that and I have. I would just like the option to not have to use my phone.

A LTE module has already been developed and you can purchase it however, itā€™s not cheap. https://store.liberatedsystems.co.uk/product/opencom-lte/

really? I couldnā€™t seem to find it. Do you have a link?

I believe this is what was being referred to.
