[FEATURE REQUEST] Paperlike screen protectors for the upcoming Framework 12

I must have missed this post earlier. I was just thinking that I bet the slightly soft tip on the MS pen will wear faster on the screen protector than it would on glass. And that if the pen tip was hard plastic, instead of the slightly rubbery tip that the MS Slim Pen 2 has, the friction would probably feel better to me as well.

Granted, I probably won’t draw enough to wear down many tips, regardless. But I did just think of that this morning. Then when skimming back through this thread, I noticed your post about it.

I wonder how the paper-like compares more directly to the matte one. I think I saw a sample option on the viascreens site, might have to pick that up.

I was wondering that too. I have one of their packs of samples on the way.

I found the following pages about the bathroom tips.

My bathroom was resembling a Turkish bath when I was applying the screen protector :joy:
It worked out, you can barely make out that there is a protector on the screen.
So it was totally worth it, and as a side benefit I felt a tad bit more relaxed after spending the twenty minutes in the steamy room. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

If anyone asks: I applied the paper-like screen protector from viascreens

I know of two methods only: Either you have sort of a clean room (allegedly Louis Rossmann style (someone told me)) or you first take a hot long shower.

Any update on those samples?

Sorry, yeah. I did get them. I haven’t had time to really scrutinize them thoroughly. I only have very early first impressions. I suspect I’ll like standard matte the best. It’s similar to the paperlike one, but the “texture” isn’t quite as rough. Silk seemed not all that different from a standard, glossy screen protector. But I haven’t messed with it enough to say for sure. The “impact” one definitely seemed like a normal, glossy sheet of plastic, but it’s probably twice as thick as the other options. The two privacy versions are about what you’d expect. They have a slight smoke tint when looking at them straight on, so they’ll probably reduce the screen brightness very slightly. But if you look from a slight angle to either side, they go almost completely black. Top to bottom they don’t change as much, which I believe is typical for these types of protectors, but I can’t say for sure, because I never use them.

Absolutely failed to put mine on today, bad environment to do it but still annoying. Tried to follow their guide and perhaps I should’ve done it more closely I tried to have the laptop folded up into the flat 2 in 1 versus having the keyboard extended out or straight up, couldn’t get adhesive strips to fold underneath and stick so it didn’t want to fold back up when I went to apply. I did manage to get a mostly close application but had a few air bubbles I couldn’t solve and lots of cat hair (Bad environment) tried to solve it and it kept getting worst thought, “You know what let’s just give up and try again that’s why you get 2. Went straight at it just removed the adhesive, I know what to do. Cat hair/air bubbles everywhere.

Might try ordering again and doing it at a more clean environment without wearing my cat hair covered shorts. That UK shipping is abysmmal though, ordered it the 28th and it arrived today. idk I don’t care for the glare but the wait is hard I might just order a generic matte screen protector for a similar size screen.

I’m not much of a fan of plastic screen protectors for my devices, as they are so soft that they can get scratched and dented too easily; glass is the only way to go, in my opinion. Glass also works well as a sort of ablative protection for the rest of the screen, as if you drop the device you might find the energy goes into breaking the protector rather than the actual display. And a broken screen protector is much cheaper to replace than a cracked LCD panel!

For my newly-arrived Laptop12, I decided to gamble on a tempered glass screen protector (matte finish, though glossy ones are available) that was originally designed for the 12-inch display in the fancy trims of F-150 truck, and I’m happy to report that it fits quite nicely! It covers all of the actual display parts, and when I aligned the bottom edge flush with the plastic bezel the top edge just barely sits below the webcam aperture. There are a few millimeters of space it doesn’t cover on the left and right sides, but overall I’m quite pleased with it. I’d give an amazon link to the specific one that I got, but I’m not 100% pleased with mine (the adhesive has a few bubbles around the edges) and there are a million alternatives that probably come out of the same Chinese glass-cutting factory anyway.

BROTECT has added a screen protector line for the FW12. They do free shipping to Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the UK. They don’t have paperlike but there’s matte.

I just applied one of their screens in a steamed bathroom. Fits perfectly. Super happy with the result.

So the paperlike protector feels like paper, but based on what I read in this thread the styluses weren’t made for that kind of roughness, and it is actually not that great to be used with styluses.

The question arises then, what is the best solution if you want a relatively fingerprint-free screen that also feels great with a stylus?

I have the silk-protector and am relatively happy with it.

Installation was a bit frustrating, as I had it bubblefree on the display, but removing the protective film lifted the protector again and included some small dust-particles… That’s not an issue of the silk-protector, just something that annoys me, and thus has to be said

It feels nice, stylus does not slip as on the glass-screen, but isn’t sticky also. With direct light the screen becomes a litte gray, which I don’t like that much, but that’s a point of all matte-screens I’d say.

i plan on getting a matte screen protector, as opposed to “paperlike”.

i tried a Hoyumi Paperlike protector on my yoga 2in1 years ago and absolutely hated how it felt to draw on with my Thinkpad Pen Pro, the matte protector kept my fingerprints off the screen and IMO still felt like paper enough without getting into the realm of sandpaper.

Thanks for sharing!

Which one did you get specifically? There are several matte options listed. Upscreen Reflection Shield, BROTECT AirGlass, or something else?

Edit: Just ordered BROTECT AirGlass Matte. I think that’s the one you recommended anyway. Was sad that the often mentioned paperlike screen protector does not ship easily overseas. The BROTECT one seems like it could be a good solution. Use several of their films / glasses on different devices already.

Yeah, for me the “paperlike” protectors are okay with the hard tipped pens, though I think a matte protector would still be more than enough friction for me. But pens with a slightly softer or rubbery tip, drag too much for my liking. The paperlike surface (it’s just rougher) is too grippy with softer tipped pens.

It doesn’t feel like a pen on paper to me. It feels like rubber on rough plastic, lol.

Don’t the make stylus tips to match the respective surfaces? Seems like a bit of an oversight if they aren’t.

Oh I was between the matte and privacy and ultimately went for privacy. And yeah, there are people on the forum who have shared their experiences with the matte (/matte glass), for example: Matte screen protector - #100 by Green Seems like a solid choice.

Oh wow. Diffused matte reflections look really nice. Looking forward to apply mine. Although I usually suck at applying protective film on anything larger than a watch screen.

Thanks for sharing the review link.

Im stuck on which one to decide between those two aswell, how well does the privacy glass deal with reflections and fingerprints?
