Fedora 39/40 Linux - FW16 Unable to get Wifi 6E speeds

Hello all,

I have received my FW 16 and I seem to be unable to get my wifi connection speed to run on 6E bands. The supported frequencies mentioned in the settings only support 2.4 & 5 GHz bands and the download speeds support this.

I know the laptop is fine because on Windows it downloads at 6E speeds but on Fedora it seems to be unable to achieve this. I have tried installing sudo dnf install mt7xxx-firmware.noarch but no avail.

  • Which OS (Operating System)?
Fedora 39. Fedora 40 also has this problem

  • Which Framework laptop (11th, 12th or 13th generation Framework laptop) are you asking for support with?
    Framework 16

I’ve gotten 6Ghz wifi to work on stock F39/F40 kernels/drivers with my F16.
BUT
The wifi card will only use 6Ghz if it can’t downgrade to 5Ghz. So I had to setup a network that is missing 5Ghz for it to use 6Ghz.

When it connects to 6Ghz, it gets great speeds, about 1.5GiB/s up/down consistently.

It’s at the point where I feel like getting myself an AX210 wifi card, as the one in my old notebook wasn’t quite so picky about 6Ghz.
