Hello everyone,
After I seemingly bricked my Standalone 11th gen FW13 motherboard, I’d like to provide the following feedback on the 3.24 BIOS update article in the knowledge base:
- There’s a line saying “This update requires a battery present to complete the update”… In the Known issues section… Under the component Version section… At the bottom of the article…
- Are we talking about the BIOS battery ?
- Are we talking about the whole 65Wh battery ?
- If so … Why wasn’t this said in the dedicated Updating a Mainboard outside of a laptop section ?
- Even if I read that in time… Was I basically expected to read the BIOS documentation to see that I needed to buy a battery, just for updating my standalone motherboard ?
- Part 1 of the Updating a Mainboard outside of a laptop section tells us to connect the display on the upper left, and the power on the lower left. Part 2 tells us to plug the AC to the left side… Which I am guessing is a mistake
- The screenshots of the update instructions show some big inconsistencies:
- The power and USB Drive are both on the same side, VS the power and the display on the same side in the written instructions
- The power is shown on top in the screenshot VS on the bottom in the written instructions
- The guide says that the system will reboot several times, and then tells me I should press F12 on the first update
- The user is told to reboot the PC after the first reboot, but also that the system will just reboot itself 4 times automatically: Is it 4 updates = 1 reboot or 4 updates = 4 reboots ?
- At which reboot should the user change the side of the power/display/USBDrive components ?
I feel quite defeated at the moment. Feel free to add to or challenge my points/opinions ![]()
