Flaky USB behavior

I plugged in a USB keyboard and mouse and used the laptop for a few moments. Then I plugged in an HDMI cable into the port adjacent to the keyboard, and the USB keyboard went dead. I unplugged and replugged the keyboard and it worked only briefly, so I relocated it to a port on the other side of the laptop, and happily used the laptop for a while. Then I plugged in the power adapter (on the port opposite the HDMI), and instantly heard an electric crackle and the external display connected by HDMI went dark.

On another day (not having tried the HDMI again), I used the laptop, on battery, with a USB mouse, and from time to time when there was a big change on the (internal) LCD screen, for example when I opened Text Editor, the mouse made a clicking sound and rebooted through its color cycle, as if unplugged and replugged.

I’m using Fedora 43 with kernel 6.18.4-200 and BIOS 3.04

The USB subsystem seems “leaky”. Can I fix it?

Sounds a little bit like a possible hardware fault, might want to reach out to framework support with that.

Make sure you do not connect USB A modules and HDMI into Port 1 and port 4 since those ports are mostly for USB C modules and DP module due to high power it outputs.

USB A modules can be installed in following ports: 2,3,5,6.
