Foam Pad Importance

Hi everyone!

My 16 took a spill on concrete recently, and I got parts to fix it. Works great now, but noticed rattling in the chassis, found this piece of foam (with metal on the other side) that looks like it was part of the heatsink near the hinge. Tried placing it back into the heatsink, but it does not want to stay. Is this component necessary for function? Will not having it effect anything?

That looks like a piece of foam used to direct airflow. I wouldn’t assume it’s “required”.

It looks like the foam I had to install in my Batch 1 unit to reduce the keyboard deflection/stiffen the keyboard. It shouldn’t hurt anything without it, but if you notice your typing is a bit “hollow,” I’d reach out to support for replacement foam pads.
