For MB purchasers: what case are you getting?

I’m interested in the Fractal Node 304 too. Can you share some pictures showing the space issue?

The ioshield makes it so that you cannot place your mb except to the very back of the case. The case fan was too thick and was blocking my noctua. Finally bought a silverstone slim air which is like 15.5m and fits in there.

I got lazy and bought a Jonsbo N10 case to try and cram the desktop into. It turned into half a project, but my solution came out decent enough I think.

I just need to add some clips to hold the wifi antennas internally, performance testing it as is seems to work great.

The biggest issue I had is the orientation of the power supply below the mainboard does not work with the Framework power supply, it’s leads are too short.
That’s ok, I wanted additional power connectors anyway to perhaps use a SATA PCIE adapter and toss a few SSDs underneath for mass storage. So I bought the FSP power supply that the framework unit is based on, same power specs, more plugs. I am not happy with that thing.

It’s very loud, you can tell that the framework modifications really payed off in the noise department. I would drop a noctua fan in it to quiet it down but I’m having another issue that makes me hesitate. The PC keeps hard powering off at random. I had no such behavior on the Framework power supply but now it seems to happen sometimes multiple times a day. If I can’t solve that there’s no point trying to continue to use it.

In retrospect I should have bought something that takes an SFX power supply. I will probably go ahead and 3d print my own case after all when I get some time.

I have the same in black color…
I just didn’t take the time to design the cover and print it.

I wanted to try and make it look rather stock. But I was also told to make a nuclear power plant cooling tower top for it. I might.

I’ll share the models for this version once I’ve cleaned it up. You do need a few more screws to hold it together, but I really tried to make it work with no extra hardware. It was just getting too complicated.

So… project finished.

Jonsbo Z20 Case

Framework desktop motherboard
RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB connected via NVMe to Oculink
WD SN850P for PS5 4TB SSD
PSU Corsair SF850 850W (my be quiet! PSU wasn’t sufficient in the stress test over 560W…)

I used an NVMe to Oculink adapter. The SSD is on the back… I now have one slot free for a PCIe x4 card.

I went for the NR200, but had to design a duct to prevent it from overheating. You can grab it here if you have the same setup: NR200 - Framework Desktop Mainboard 120mm Duct by atomkemp | Download free STL model | Printables.com

I absolutely love this little computer!
