Hi, I have to buy a laptop and was considering framework 13. Has anyone ever upgraded it and installed a dedicated graphics board? Would it be possible? I don’t really need it now but i think i might in the future
I don’t think you’re going to be able to add an extra GPU inside the FWLT13 even if you’re an electronics genius.
However, the GPUs built in to both Intel and AMD chips get better with each new generation, so in the future you might find a new mainboard that fits your needs.
I believe the GPU in the AMD 7040 series used in the FWLT13 AMD is similar to the GPU in a steam deck, so maybe that is already enough for you?
Oh, and you can probably connect an external USB4 or thunderbolt GPU. Again it’s not going to be a top performer, but it might be enough, I’m not sure exactly how much such a connection limits performance in different situations.

I occasionally use an external GPU with my FW13 AMD, in a Razer Core enclosure. Works pretty well and was very simple to get working. Performance isn’t where that card would be in a desktop PC, but it’s fairly convenient to access when I’m home.
