I was dumb and accidentally screwed to hard on my mainboard screws causing them to not unscrew. I am amble turn the screw but it does not tighten or loosen. I think I saw in another form post that if you overtighten your screws it breaks the adhesive of the threads allowing them to free spin.
I managed to fix this actually by taking a small tweaser and prying under. Which removed the screw and the stripped thread. Which while its anoying I dont have a usuable thread anymore. I can live with.
When I did the Intel → AMD upgrade, I lost a screw … searched all over the desk and room, couldn’t find it. So that laptop lived a hard bumpy life for 2 years down a screw, and it was fine. (Last month I found the screw … it had stuck itself to a magnet inside the laptop’s case, out of sight)
You’re probably fine, but support might know of a way to fix it.
The reason im doing a swap for my board is because actually the screw fell out on its own shorting one of the main power distribution chips. When I screwed it back in it immediately got stuck.
yiiikes, that’s concerning!
Yeah. I made it even worse that I was stupid and not being careful I accidentally ripped the plastic base inside the bottom cover that the battery screws into. Its a pretty clean break so im thinking I can maybe just superglue it back into place, and the middle screw is still intact so it should be fine.
