Framework 13 wont wake from sleep

Hi all, I am running into a annoying problem quite frequently. My laptop wont wake from sleep. The power indicator light pulses but whatever i do it wont wake. The laptop gets quite hot, the fan is not spinning. I tried:

  • Pressing all kinds of keys on the keyboard
  • Fysically closing and opening the laptop
  • Pressing the powerbutton

The only thing that worked is fully shutting down my laptop. This is anoying as I sometimes lose progress on whatever i am working on. Is there a fix?

You can triage using the amd-s2idle tool from

we’re talking windows or linux? If linux, check the output of the following command. It will tell you if power button has the ability to wake the device up

cat /sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/PNP0C0C:00/power/wakeup

Sorry forgot to mention im running win 10

On Windows did you make sure you have all drivers installed? There should be no yellow bang in device manager.

Does clicking on your touchpad wake the laptop? Waking using the keyboard was disabled a while ago, due to it waking the laptop randomly. The power button and lid should’ve worked though.

I have the same issue. I can’t remember if it was ever intermittent at any point but every time my laptop goes to sleep I can’t wake it. Power button flashes and only solution is to hard restart. I’ve seen a lot of threads about this but never a concrete answer as far as I can tell.

Framework 13, AMD 7040, Windows 11

If you unplug the power adapter while it is asleep and the press the power button to resume, does it work then?

If you have pressed the power button to wake it, with the power adapter plugged in, that is too late for this test.

So, in general, try to wake with the psu unplugged, and then once booted, plug the psu in then.

Also, note this problem can occur when there are driver bugs. So, try unplugging usb devices, and disabling bluetooth etc, before suspend, to try to narrow down the problem.
Old firmware on some SSD can also cause this, so it is worth updating all ssd firmware if you can.

Lastly, some RAM chips can cause this. But they are somewhat expensive right now, so i would try swapping those out as a last resort.

A workaround:
Configure the laptop to hibernate instead of suspend.
It is slower, but is more likely to wake.
