Framework 13 AMD Laptop Not Waking from Sleep – Abnormal Shutdown needed

Hi all,

I’ve been experiencing an issue with my Framework 13 AMD (Ryzen 7 7840u, 64GB RAM, Windows 11) where the laptop refuses to wake from sleep.

Here’s what happens:

  • I close the lid to put the laptop into sleep mode.
  • When I reopen the lid, instead of waking, the power button starts doing slow flashes, similar to hibernation mode.
  • The laptop becomes completely unresponsive: no reaction to keyboard presses or even holding down the power button to wake it.
  • The only way to recover is to force shut down the laptop by holding the power button until it turns off, and then booting it up again.

I’ve attached a screenshot from powercfg /SleepStudy, where you can see the Abnormal Shutdown following the sleep session.

Has anyone encountered similar behavior or have any advice on troubleshooting this? This is not the first time I have encountered this issue. Problem with this issue is that it is hard to reproduce as its occurance is random.

Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue. It usually only happens though after I leave the laptop only slightly open. Haven’t checked the powercfg thing though

I have the same specs and was able to resolve the issue by uninstalling the “Realtek Audio” device & driver from device manager & letting Windows replace the driver.

Have been encountering the same issue for about a month: [Resolved] Framework fails to recover after closing laptop lid (suspend) - #11 by James3

For me it’s a framework 16 with Ubuntu, though, and it is trivial to reproduce (at least at the moment).

@John_Wilkinson
Please can you explain how you can reproduce the problem. I would like to reproduce the problem on my FW16 with Ubuntu.
