Framework 16 - some graphical quirks in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

Hi. I have just installed Win 11 and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS on my Farmework Laptop 16 with NVIDIA RTX 5070 graphics. I used this guide: Ubuntu 25.10 Installation on the Framework Laptop 16 - Framework Guides (I need to stay on 24.04 LTS though for now). There are two issues I have encountered in the entire process:

  • GPUmode extension was installed, but AppCenter shows the installation size to be 0 bytes, and I do not see its applet after a reboot. envycontrol itself works fine. I also tried changing the Nvidia Mux setting from Optimus to Hybrid.

  • Fractional scaling does not properly work - the screen gets rescaled, but not resized to fit the screen, so the image instead is cropped.

Any ideas on how to solve these?

Separately, I had to modify the Ubuntu installation in Grub to add nomodeset, otherwise Ubuntu would have freezed when starting the installation.

Hi, have you found a fix for this yet? I’m having the same issue, and also sometimes random crashes on Ubuntu 24.04.

Not yet, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1KXeTd30KI suggests the scaling issues (and by extension perhaps other graphical issues) could be Ubuntu bugs. That’s all I know so far.
