My Framework AMD 13 screen malfunctioned with vertical banding after just a few months of normal use. Support has refused my warranty request, claiming it’s customer-induced damage:
They imply this indicates physical damage, though it’s 100% a digital artifact, there is no damage whatsoever apparent. They further chided us for lightly touching the bottom of the display to demonstrate that it induces a horizontal banding, implying that it is further damaging the screen.
Having read through the forums here and on reddit, it seems apparent there is a systemic issue with the 13" matte screens at least, either a quality control issue with their supplier or a hardware design issue, such that normal use admits damage to the screens or cables that other laptops do not experience. Further, there’s a warranty coverage issue with Framework, where they’re refusing to make good on valid claims.
As it stands, I strongly recommend against purchasing Framework devices. I really want to support the repairability concept, and found the hardware apparently nicely designed, but their refusal to acknowledge this apparently systemic issue is unacceptable.
