Framework Desktop Batch 1 Guild

I received mine yesterday, but in Belgium.
As you can see, it also got delayed at the last step.

Whew, I see 8/21 for mine as well as the release/import. I guess Fedex’s in-between scan of ā€œdeparting the hubā€ is misleading. I was starting to have second thoughts and thinking of picking up an RTX Pro 6000 Max-Q for my purposes

Mine finally has the international shipment release as well. which happened after departing fedex hub… Also says Thursday.

Mine was one of the ones stuck in Memphis. Thankfully it made it to my local FedEx pickup location today.

I’m looking forward to opening things up and playing tonight.

Mine arrived today. Unfortunately with the wrong fan. I noticed someone else said they ordered the non-RGB fan and got an RGB fan. I ordered RGB and got a non-RGB fan. The box says it’s the Mobius 120 ARGB but it only has a single cable coming off of it, and I don’t see any R G or B’s at all.

I sent a note to support to ask about it already.

I got mine today. I ordered the noctua fan, and received it. Assembly went smoothly, looking forward to installing Arch on it.

Received this afternoon. Moving my drive over was slightly more arduous than expected since the secure boot option is in an unusual location in the bios. Once I had secure boot off, it still didn’t see my nvme drive, so I used a boot drive and reinstalled the bootloader. I’m now booted up into the system and using it. The only other problem I’ve had is that my Optane swap drive isn’t being seen by the system now, it worked perfectly on my Deskmini X300, maybe I need to tweak the settings in the bios.

One thing that I’m super impressed with is the console settings, the ability to use a serial console, even if it’s via USB rather than a real serial port, is really cool and will come in handy in the distant future where this motherboard gets relegated to Docker Server duties.

Edit: Unfortunately, I didn’t notice when I was ordering how many fewer USB-A ports this has than my current system, so my mouse is now plugged into my USB 3.x hub, and my monitor’s USB hub isn’t plugged into anything. I might grab another USB-A adapter at some point for the front.

Cool! That’s a really nice feature that shows that they know their customer base.

I’m assuming that sort of thing is basically a feature flag from the BIOS developer that OEMs can toggle, but it’s nice (though not surprising) that Framework isn’t gating that behind an ā€œenterpriseā€-focused product segment.

That was me. I ordered the plain black fan and got an RGB one (2 extra cable headers). The box the fan was in says ā€œCooler Master Mobius 120ā€. I won’t bother to ask support about it.

I’ve already asked support. Their first question was concerning - ā€œJust to confirm, did the issue occur right out of the box?ā€ā€¦ what? Of course it happened right out of the box… an entire cable on a fan and RGB lights didn’t just disappear after I took it out of the box.

You sure? Those nasty RGB thingys are a plight that pops up everywhere when you are not looking at it …

Where is that? I’d swear I’ve looked everywhere in the Setup, but haven’t found it. I feel like I’m being an idiot, but then again, it’d help if framework updated their secure boot documentation for the desktop.

The search command only shows the PSP SecureOS version when searching for secure and doesn’t show anything useful when searching for boot.

Update: Just saw your separate post:

Thank you. I don’t think I’d ever have found that there was an earlier menu.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention because it wasn’t a big deal, but my box didn’t include the screwdriver. I found where it belonged in the box but it wasn’t there. Luckily, I already have a Ifixit toolkit with the correct Torx 5 bit.

Might be also noteworthy that if you buy the mainboard alone, it does not include a screw driver either. You better have a Torx 5 bit lying around. The mainboard does however include the fan mounting kit (without a fan of course).

I bought the whole thing with the case and noctua fan kit, 4 tile packs and 3 loose tiles, plus 3 addon modules. The only thing I didn’t get was storage since I was already moving my 1tb drive over.

(The screwdriver was listed on the order.)

Mine was stuck in Memphis from the 15th to the 21st. Then it got scanned in my State and was delivered that day. Got the wrong fan with mine, but everything else was correct. Finally get to play around with it a bit today,

Congrats to anyone who already received their units! If you received the wrong fan, or if you are missing the screwdriver, please reach out to the support team!

I received the FD and was able to move my Ubuntu 24.04 LTS m.2 from my existing PC directly to the Framework Desktop after disabling Secure Boot. I’m very pleased as it got me up and going in no time. Only issue I had was receiving the wrong fan. (support ticket open). I’ve been running it all weekend with no issues. :+1:

I’m really enjoying my Framework Desktop. I got Arch Linux running on it, and compiled llama.cpp with Vulkan support for running LLMs. It has been great! I am still waiting to be able to order the handle, that would make the system just about perfect.
