When Framework Laptop 12 is in Tablet mode is the keyboard locked?
I want to know this too! Perhaps, I might have seen a hardware-level switch to disable the keyboard in a video in the past. I searched the past videos related to Laptop 12, but I couldn’t find it. Was I dreaming?
Perhaps, the keyboard lock is mentioned as “keylock” on this video 11:26?
This is a keylock. This is being marketed to students. One of the things students on is they don’t want their laptop go walking off. So you are going to see this keylock.
I think that’s actually a “Kensington” lock port. It’s for connecting a standardized device cable lock to help prevent people from easily being able to just grab and steal a device. Not super secure, but meant to make it a bit more difficult, in order to prevent thefts of opportunity.
Thanks to BigT & Junaruga for your help, be because I’m a newbie to this maybe I should rephrase my question.
When you open the laptop to draw on the screen in tablet mode if the keyboard rest on your arm, will it type on the screen?
I hope this make sense.

I don’t have any direct knowledge of how this is handled on the FW12, but in other convertible laptops I’ve seen, disabling/enabling of keyboard input is handled in software. The hinge position is reported similarly to how other laptops report to the operating system the state of the lid (open or closed). Then it’s up to the OS what to do with that information.
Thanks Susan_Sons
It looks like the Framework 12 is going to use a very similar design as the FW13 & FW16 to detect when the lid is closed. There’s a small magnet above the keyboard, and a hall effect sensor just below the screen. When the lid is closed, or nearly closed, the magnet gets close to the hall effect sensor, and the OS knows that the lid is closed.
One clever thing Framework could do is to disable the keyboard & trackpad when the hall effect sensor detects a weak magnetic field. This would theoretically only happen when the lid is mostly closed, or when it’s in tablet mode & the magnet is slightly further away. We’ll just have to wait and see.
The keyboard and trackpad are disabled in tablet mode. We have a BIOS option for “cyberdeck mode” where you can keep the keyboard and trackpad enabled too.
Perfect!!! Thankyou all.

I see. Thank you for your explanation! I learned it from you!
