Just got the “Your order is shipping soon”, but it was in error and was for the Framework Desktop that I’m currently using to write this email. But it did get me excited for the Framework Laptop 16, so I figured I’d post in the Guild thread. But I couldn’t find a Guild thread for it, so I’ll make one just as another community member did for Batch 1.

I’m very much looking forward to having a Laptop that can dual boot Windows and Linux again. I’m most likely going to put Windows on the 2280 drive slot, and windows on the 2230 drive slot. I’ve actually had really good experience with the Raspberry Pi 1TB SSD (2230) [Yes, it’s DRAM-less] so that’s probably going to be the Linux drive.
Not sure yet what RAM I’m going to buy or what 2280 NVMe drive I’ll get. Looking for suggestions there. Wendell in this video, said that he was getting around 30 minutes of extra battery life just by swapping his NVMe drive to the engineering sample Phison E28. But I haven’t seen that controller out in the wild yet.
Did anyone else get that “Order shipping soon” thing or was it just me? It was for my Framework Desktop that I already have so I thought it was for this Laptop.
Hopefully we should have some information soon. I’ve seen in the past that they had done multiple batches at once. So if we get very very lucky, Batch 1 and Batch 2 ship at the same time.
Don’t think they will do that so early on, they will be ramping the production at that point and still ironing the kinks out of the process. Once they get to batches 5/6 maybe then you may get multiple batches at once, but that will still be dependant on batch sizes.
Given that market’s DDR5 RAM pricing is increasing, I decided to add 64GB to my order. I would like to lock in the price now, than have to DIY a kit later that is more expensive for the same speed.
I got the email they are preparing your batch email yesterday. Mine is the whole system with RAM, but my own a BYOD for NVMe. Fingers crossed it gets here before Thanksgiving, and it doesn’t get lost in the MEMPHIS, TN Bermuda Tringle shipping hub. That would be very cool.
