Framework supporting far-right racists?

I did see that, but i was looking for Vaxry apologizing specifically for own use of slurs against trans people.

ya, I haven’t seen anything relating to that yet, still looking into things tho

This is what I was referring to:

for that reason I have apologized a few times and I apologize now as well.
Vaxry's Blog

That’s specifically only about the instance of someone being misgendered

I do believe the situation was handled very unprofessionally, and instead of the nickname change I should’ve just banned them, and for that reason I have apologized a few times and I apologize now as well.

There is no apology here about him calling trans people slurs

I’ve joined this forum today in order to voice my support for Framework to not support financially or otherwise organisations and groups that are against trans people or are actually doing fascist or anti-immigration things.

I don’t have a framework laptop. Since I learnt about them from LTT they seem like a good idea, and if I didn’t already have a laptop that works, I would have gotten a framework laptop. The ethos or reusing what we have and reducing what we throw away appeals to me.

However I do think that just because a project is FOSS it is not enough. I want the projects I support to be anti-fascist andd anti-racist. Especially in this time where fascism has taken over a world superpower. It’s not enough to be neutral of apolitical. It is a matter of survival for some of us, especially when most of big tech is happy to work with and for much of the far right.

As some folks have expressed discomfort at the idea of funding companies or orgs that don’t have their safety at heart. I do not think this can be ignored for sake of a big tent.

I had hoped framework laptops will be there for me when I am ready to make the switch but this news has made me disappointed. I want an open source project that supports people like me too.

I will not engage in politics here.

However :slightly_smiling_face:

I would happily buy a Framework laptop, in very good conscience.

Continuing the discussion from Framework supporting far-right racists?:

Inviting people into a tent who don’t want to share it with people already inside is a bad idea.

I purchased a Framework computer months ago, but this is how you lose repeat business.

I quite agree that Framework should have a big tent, the question in my mind is what the criteria for inclusion is.

At the expense of sounding frivolous, “Bigger is better, notably for ‘adult’ shows, but you probably want people in the ticket booth to stop the little kids. Or, in this case, the angry adult farmer with a pitchfork”

In this case, your tent is for something normal and desirable. I argue you still don’t want the angry farmer with a pitchfork. His hay, perhaps, but not the pitchfork.
If you can devise a criteria that gets the hay without the pitchfork, and doesn’t provide him with moral or physical income to use to run around and pitchfork more people, I’d support it.
If you/we can’t separate the two, I’d suggest you regrettably refrain from buying his hay.

[And yes, this is arguing from analogy, and needs to be carefully compared with the exact universe of debate. Given that, I do find analogy more readable than formal logics. In a previous life I used to do proof schemas by starting with analogies, with some success]

And in case you say he didn’t know people took issue to it, here’s a screenshot from the discord, where he explicitly says he ignores it.

Oh nice. I prefer my fascism running on free libre and open source software. :cowboy_hat_face:

I’ll think about this when I’ll be in the trains for deportation, with my trans-colored Laptop 12 13th Gen. i5, thinking, « at least it’s open source » lol.

First Frame.work worked with ai bullshit, now if Frame.work is giving money to people whose politics are literally « I want you dead », I will stop recommending them to my relatives, and stop working with them also. Thanks for the info

Be careful not to fall on that slippery slope you created.

Just for clarification: this was not meant as a treat , I just wanted to point out that it is really slippery.

I wonder if it was this one: How Freedesktop/RedHat harass other projects into submission, which had to be edited because they said “I do not condone any hateful messages sent towards any of the parties mentioned.” then said where they worked and named them.

Or maybe it was Freedesktop/RedHat’s CoC team is worse than you thought., which has a similar intro of “I want to preface this with how this post is not to start a hate campaign on RedHat, Freedesktop, or the people involved”

Maybe it was Inclusive community activists are harming FOSS? Oh, thats the one! So I guess the apology was this sentence:

if I run a discord server around cultivating tomatoes, I should not exclude people based on their political beliefs, unless they use my discord server to spread those views.
which means even if they are literally adolf hitler, I shouldn’t care, as long as they don’t post about gassing people on my server
that is inclusivity

Or maybe:

Growing up in the internet of mostly the 2010s, everyone would be calling each other “retards” online, and that would be regarded as one of the lightest things you’d call people when mad. At least in the spaces I was hanging out, nobody would care, even people who would have actual diseases, or were on the receiving end of a slur targeted precisely at a group they were a member of. Hell, I was too.

I definitely am not a fan of how seemingly weak people online, especially teenagers, have become. Words are just words. Someone calling another person a “retard” shouldn’t really be a big deal. Obviously, when repeated 100 times it can be annoying, but then it’s no longer about the word itself, it’s targeted bullying.

And a question posed on a Q&A in 2024:

After getting banned by freedesktop and after the few blog posts, do you still stand for the points said in the blog post? Is there any plan on trying to get unbanned or resolving such relationship?

Which had this reply (emphasis is mine):

Despite what the FDO people have claimed as “reasons” to ban me (they’ve given like 3 different ones, none being compatible with the CoC they have) I’ve never broken the CoC on their platforms

I’ll note the actual “apology” post, Changes to the Hyprland community

Shortly after our exchange of blogposts, I have conducted an anonymous poll about harassment on the discord server. With about 300 replies, the results were not great, as about 30% of people reported feeling uneasy about the state of the server.

I would point out that the first three I mentioned were roughly 1 year after the changes from this post were apparently put into effect.

The only thing I would say in support of Vaxry is that he is still quite young. I hope he learns from his own past behavior and moves in a positive direction. As of right now, I do not get that impression.

Coming here to appreciate the community, I have spent the entire day with this topic in my head, and I am pleasantly surprised that all of this attention is arriving in this topic and perhaps we’ll get to actually hear framework team reconsidering this situation as something that truly affects its community.

Also great that most people are talking and exchanging info and only some few are engaging in destructive arguments. I have some hopes for this incident to actually end up being quite beneficial.

I’ve been eying for the trans-coloured (bubblegum) framework 12 for a bit now and almost pulled the trigger. Frameworks political stance of “hardware should be maintainable and replacable” really resonated with me and I was excited to support them with my money.

This is not it though - “Big Tent” means nothing when you’re supporting people who directly call for “Britain to be white again” and use slurs against minorities. It creates a gross space where people (like someone earlier in this thread) feel empowered to outright call for my existence to be invalidated.

I really do hope Framework step back and respond well - this literally happened a few days ago on RetroAcheivements & they handled it well. I really hope framework respond.

double check my profile, I’m not new, but the kerfuffles I’m familiar with are associated to design flaws and hardware defects, not something like this, correct me if I’m wrong tho

Please take a look at: On Hyprland Moderation | Hyprland

That is no apology, that takes no accountability for actions. “but I haven’t been saying that stuff since.”
