To stay relevant to the point of my original post, if I was in charge of social media promotion for a company, and I go to a thread and see people just blatantly calling others “POS“, “schizophrenic“, “tylenol baby“, I sure would have reservations about promoting that project/community…

That’s by far not as harmful as the names DHH is being called here, baseless.

just so people know, i have flagged my own original post here.

it seems people are incapable of handling a sensitive topic on a public forum. it’s now the busiest topic of all time on this forum, and will likely reach similar stratospheric numbers in terms of views.

i’m not proud of this.

i’ve actually reached out to @nrp early on, same night, about this thread. we’ve had a pretty productive conversation that continues to this day.

i have kept mostly quiet here, except with one appeal to calm, which seems to have been entirely lost in the noise.

so i think this, again, should just stop. it’s becoming entirely disgraceful and i wonder if i should worry about my personal safety. i’ve asked moderators to close this thread and i wish the community will move on.

i think both sides have been heard plenty at this point, and we’ll see what Framework does about this, in due time.

in the meantime, while moderators decide what to do about this thread, can people just consider that it’s basically impossible to read up on the entire thread here. there’s just too much: Discourse estimates it’s a 250min read, that’s almost FOUR HOURS of reading.

i suspect absolutely no one has read this entire thread, and i don’t recommend anyone does at this point. at this point, everyone is trying to scream on top of each other, and it’s not productive.

please, just stop.

and, the next time this inevitably comes up, consider that it’s extremely hard to change someone’s mind on the internet. try to be more considerate, quiet, and read before you write. and when there’s too much to read, then it’s too much to write.

While I disagree, I’m not going to engage with someone on debating what adjectives are more harmful.

What does it matter to my point what people have called him here? You’re thinking I’m arguing something I’m not currently. If a company saw this thread and decided to promote framework in the midst of all this going on, I’d similarly be cautious of their decision making.

I wonder about my safety too. One of the AGAINST here tried to DOXX a person over a disagreement.

That was directed at me, and I have the reply email that contains the original message in its entirety as evidence.

Thanks for the rundown! I’m probably in the cohort you describe, so even more excited now. I moved from Mac to Linux a few years ago and am ready to try going from GUI to TUI. I use some of the bloatware and have no issues with opinionated software. Got started with Rails.

If there is some hidden agenda, I’d say it’s giving devs an off-ramp from Macs as part of a long running feud between 37signals and Apple.

I’m very optimistic regarding the situation if the conversations with @nrp are “productive.” That said, I agree that this topic has descended to utter bedlam and I don’t blame the Framework staff for wanting to stay out of this. I think it would do all of us good if we simply logged off and took a break for a few days.
