Framework supporting far-right racists?

I have the feeling that more projects will move away from such CoCs, than there will be projects that will move towards such CoCs.

We have built amazing things better and faster without anything like this. So they are indeed not needed for achieving best performance and quality.

Wow, another message with nothing wrong with it flagged enough times to be removed. For a group claiming inclusivity, that’s interesting.

Hopefully @moderators check out the community flags to verify soonish. There’s probably a pretty big backlog on this post alone though :grimacing:

If someone with the Regular tag flags something by a non-Member, it automatically gets hidden. Either that or it got flagged enough times to be automatically hidden

That’s my reaction too. I’m covering up the framework logo with pro-trans stickers. The next time anyone asks what my laptop is, my answer will not be a positive one. When I get to Europe I’ll get a tariff-free MNT Reform and donate the framework to some charity that can do some good with it. That said, if any part breaks, I’d sooner toss it than purchase a new part from Framework.

Had to remind myself about this, thought there’s a slight chance to be true.

Maybe it is, for some. But when I see the last posts I know it’s most likely just wishful thinking from my side.

I won’t buy one while they provide only Windows pre installed.

Thank you Nirav for not caving in to the mob. Yes, some of us are conservative, libertarian, communist, anarchist and more. Can we all stop being terminally online and just work on making the world more beautiful? Stop all this stupid identity politics shit and let’s focus on positive technology!

I own 3: I put together my first intel framework 13 in Oct 2021, then exchanged the motherboard for amd in 2024 and used the old intel board as a separate computer with the mainboard case, and just a couple days ago i built the framework desktop and that is what i am typing on right now. It’s a great little thing, really love it. I’ve played some games on it, seems to work well enough for me, but I’m only a casual gamer so I can see it not being enough for some people.

If you are a hardcore gamer I don’t think its the right fit. The soldered-on RAM being unified and sharable with the GPU is pretty big to me for when I eventually do local LLM things, but if you just want to pew pew that isn’t really a thing you’d care about.

May I ask why? They have a windows-free option, and most distros have user-friendly installers

Disappointed in Framework’s decision to back unethical individuals. It says everything about a company’s values. You are who you surround yourself with — I won’t be supporting Framework anymore.

I am happy framework supports the linux community more, yet i am disappointed FW hasn’t vetted the projects they support more and did not support those who in the most favorable of words can be called far-right. Especially since for both of the controversial projects, you have more then enough alternatives to also support who do need the support.

Intolerant people are leaving because Framework ain’t bending the knee (so far). It’s not surprising and I guess they didn’t believe in Framework’s mission in the first place. If it wasn’t this thing it would eventually be something else as the entire industry is walking on egg shells. There are a whole lot of people on both sides of the political spectrum. I see a lot of one side more than the other asking to cut ties and pressuring companies for a result though. I also think one side is likely to join a community to just to post in discussions like this but not interact otherwise. People are not going to step into your world to argue within it.

Framework appeasing one side’s views by canceling ties with projects or people is going to alienate a bunch of people. They should remain politically neutral.

Do you have anything more productive to say on this topic?

If not, please, show respect to others and don’t try to turn this into bickering.

Nazi bar is a pretty established analogy for the fate of places that ignore the paradox of tolerance and tolerate everyone - they become places for the intolerant.

We can also call it Poe’s law if you prefer, but that contains the word idiot and you seem to be more keen on nitpicking the wording than having this discussion?

Sorry, you’ve mistyped the whole sentence.

ā€œPeople are leaving because Framework bent the knee to the intolerantsā€.

There, I fixed it for you.

Again, with the semantics. Please pick a more interesting argument instead of inferring that you’re being called a Nazi.

Also, I’ll be honest: The great replacement theory - that DHH is invoking - has the same ideological underpinnings that justified legal discrimination and eventually the Holocaust in Nazi Germany. I don’t know if defending those views makes you a Nazi, but it certainly looks bad.

Definitely agree here. Given the painful meaning of n*** and f*** I can’t accept calling the DHH/Hyprland folks that. If not for something else, on behalf of those in my family who perished at the hands of Germans during the two world wars.

If, on the other hand, f/n is used with the modern meaning, as casually used by the left in the US, Germany, etc., who cares about such a label? It’s overused and meaningless. At the same time this is dangerous and unwise, for it trivializes atrocities, desensitizes the public and distorts the perception of past horrors especially for younger generations.

This is a very biased statistic, because it only counts people in this thread. I’m almost sure 99% of Framework’s customer base have never even heard about this

Yeah, semantics. I think people do not really understand anymore where that word came. I guess that’s why it is so easy to casually throw this around, well like this:

But fine. I will leave it there.
