Frequent freezes of Firefox rendering or full desktop

I have a recently bought Framework Laptop 13 AMD Ryzen AI 5 340, running Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon with kernel 6.14.0-24-generic. BIOS 03.04.

Everything has been working normally, but lately (unclear when this problem started) I sometimes get random freezes on the Firefox rendering or the full desktop. The former means that suddenly the contents of the Firefox window freeze, but if I do Ctrl+Tab I can see the window title changing, and I can even open new tabs just with the keyboard. Some other times the full desktop freezes and the only thing that fixes it is doing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.

I’ve done a long troubleshooting session with the help of Claude but I haven’t found anything conclusive: no zombie processes, nothing suspicious in dmesg etc. So I’m a bit lost on how to continue debugging this issue, where to check for traces when it happens, and so on.

Has anybody experienced something similar? Any tips to better understand this issue so I can come with a more articulate question next time?

Sounds like the Xorg bug. Xorg isn’t being developed or fixed anymore.
Switch to Wayland. Or if you need an X windows manager, use wayback.

Not a real troubleshooting, but prompted by this response I actually switched to Wayland (there is experimental support for it in Cinnamon) and looks like everything is working so far!

I have the same problem and disabled hardware acceleration in Firefox. After restarting Firefox, the hangs were gone.
