FW 13 13th gen intel - bios update to 3.08 - total loss of keyboard functionality

Hello all, hoping someone can help me out: I flashed my bios with the newest update from June 2025 just now: framework 13, 13th gen intel mainboard. I updated from 3.04 and rebooted successfully back into windows 11. Now, my keyboard absolutely does not work: the trackpad appears to work just fine - I can click on things, log into windows via fingerprint scanner, but I get absolutely no input from the keyboard. I hooked an external USB keyboard up as well and the only buttons that seemed to work there were the dedicated media keys that would open a web browser and such, but nothing on the actual keyboard itself seems to work at all e.g. function keys, numbers and letters etc. I’m a blind screen reader user and absolutely cannot use the laptop without a keyboard - please help!

You should probably open a support ticket with Framework instead of relying on the forum for something so catastrophic.

I realized that after lol. It turned out posting on the forum was a more keyboard and screen reader accessible experience by far than opening a support ticket! (probably because the forum uses “discourse”, a third party online community vendor) as opposed to something more custom built which the framework support form seems to be. So far support has asked me to do two things (reinstall FW driver bundle and take a screen shot) that I can’t do without finding sighted assistance so my main laptop is down until I can get that resolved. I’d never have thought that a bios update would make it so I can’t even use external keyboards - this is bonkers! I’m going to try a linux live distro and see if the keyboard behaviour is at a hardware level or just a messed-up-windows level, I’ll keep this thread up to date with my findings… Maybe FW can use the info to ensure that future bios updates would never cause an issue again.

You’ve probably already done that, but if not you could try to reset the embedded controller (EC) by:

  • turning the laptop off (complete shutdown, no suspend, no hibernation)
  • plugging out everything (power, other peripherals)
  • waiting a couple of minutes
  • plugging in power
  • turning on the laptop again

Never had a completely non-functional keyboard, but resetting the EC always helped when it got stuck with a “perpetually pressed” fn or ctrl key that would also leave only part of the keyboard working.

Try holding the fingerprint power button for 20 seconds (maybe give it 25) to reset the EC, as discussed here.

So windows and linux boot media worked with the keyboard, so my solution was to wipe and reinstall windows on my machine. The bios update appears to have taken, so that closes this issue. I don’t know why I lost keyboard functionality in the first place and hope I never do so again because its one of the worst things that could happen to a blind computer user - lol! Thanks to everyone who weighed in here and to FW support who made suggestions!
