Which release version? 22.2

Which BIOS version are you using? INSYDE 03.03

Which Framework Laptop 13 model are you using? AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series

(posted this to Reddit, too, but want to maximize my chances for advice)

As I’m using the laptop, the screen will begin to start turning off and then back on. Sometimes it does this a couple times in succession, sometimes only once. This is “off” as in “no backlight”, not as in “black screen with backlight on”. And eventually, it goes off and doesn’t come back. The laptop and OS are still running: I can hear notification dings and such. When this happens, I can close the lid and reopen the lid and the screen comes back.

So I can point to things like Wayland, or Mint just generally, but is there anything anyone would know to suggest that I might have a hardware issue? I thought I might be doing something to trip the “lip closed” sensor, but I don’t think I am: it will start doing this without me doing anything myself.

So I don’t know if it’s a hardware issue or not, and if it is, what part it might be (the display, a sensor, the mobo, or something else). Would anyone have any advice or insight about what I might test to narrow things down?

You may want to open a support ticket. But in the meantime you can check if the eDP cable that connects the display to the board ihas loose connector perhaps?

I’ve been troubleshooting Xorg UI freezing for months(not flashing) just freezes but I can see mouse. I encounter the issue on every kernel version above 6.14. Below fix didn’t help me but it may help you.

Edit GRUB config to add the following.
**amdgpu.sg_display=0
**
Saw it mentioned in different thread by Tom.

Here is more details about setting the parameter in GRUB

  • use modinfo amdgpu for more details.
