FW 13 Pro Batch 22 Guild

Starting the Batch 22 guild. Crazy seeing how framework is getting caught up this month. Hoping that everyone up to Batch 17 get their orders by the end of the month and the batches for November go smoothly with no delays. I’m hoping to receive mine within the first 2 weeks of December before I go out of town for the holidays.

I ordered the X7 258H with 64GB of RAM, no SSD as I got a new WD 4TB SN8100 as an RMA replacement from Sandisk for a failing WD 4TB SN850X.

I plan on using this as my first full Linux laptop from the start. I’m a software engineer by trade, but also do some gaming and tinkering so I’m going to try out NixOS on my laptop as I like the declarative configuration approach to setting up the OS.

I was contemplating if it is too early to start batch 22 guild, but at the impressive pace Framework is going, I guess we might as well start

I have a similar order! I ordered DIY X7 358H with 64GB, no SSD (I got the Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2 TB from another retailer), Translucent Green Bezel, 4 x USB-C, 1 x HDMI, 1 x USB-A with an EU Charger.

I plan to run CachyOS with either Niri (as I do now on my desktop PC) or Hyprland. Still undecided between the two. I’m a Solution Architect by trade, but still engineer at heart and love to tinker.

We’re going on holiday 18 December, so really hoping if the current pace continues I can have it in hand before the holiday, would be a dream come true!

Nice. I ordered the Translucent Black bezel, 4 x USB-C, 1 x USB-A and 1 x 10Gbps Ethernet.

I’m also planning on using Niri with my NixOS setup as I like the window management from some videos I saw, especially when on a single screen.

December 18th is when I’m planning on heading out for the holidays as well.

Here’s to hoping everything keeps going great. :crossed_fingers:

same config batch 13 here. CachyOS hyprland + noctalia. I thought hyprland could do the same thing and since it’s flashy I figured that’d be the one.

idk, CachyOS really riced the hyprland setup nicely and the noctalia shell, all I can say is I love both hyprland and noctalia, and when I found out CachyOS has a preconfiguration for these two I was hyped. Everything is as good as I’d hoped and so far so good.

Though I can see how Niri can be powerful for multiple window & workspaces to work more seamlessly. I’m gonna keep my eye candy for now and fingers crossed Hyprland team will make it as powerful for its power users (in terms of Niri window QoL) as well as the flexibility they’ve known for in the ricing community. Promising so far with v0.54 and v0.55 but it’s more or less in the right direction imo.

Yeah I recently played around with Hyprland in a VM, and I indeed also love Noctalia (also the default setup on Cachy with Niri). I was actually quite impressed with Hyprland, it also supports the scrolling WM like Niri, with the same workspace capabilities, but then with the added option of tiling if I am working on a bigger screen. Thus I am leaning towards Hyprland, just wondering about power draw, as that is the biggest concern for me with all the flashy bits on Hyprland, but I suppose all of that is configurable at least.

Power draw is not bad at all. I am still building the environment so I’m yet to hunt down what’s causing my system to use 5w+ consistently. Though, idling is <5w according to Noctalia which idk where they’re getting that info from, I didn’t look at the config yet. CPU however on btop is using only about 1-2w, mostly in the 1.x range while idle.

5w+ sounds bad, but I’d like to add that on another forum thread someone fully debloated windows and barely got 5w idle.

I liked noctalia because I liked the idea of a shell, but not necessarily the the bloated qt the quick shell was made out of. Only gripe I have for Noctalia is that I think it’s designed with mouse in mind. I’d love to full keyboard this bad boy (whole point of Hyprland/Niri for power users) but that’ll be a future me problem.

Unfortunately this batch ships in December and I will be out of the country for 3 months. If by some miracle the laptop was delivered before December 1st, that would be Christmas come early

That said, I got the standard CPU + 64GB variant with black/orange/grey signature look

I’m also in batch 22; and I can’t wait to get it

I ordered DIY X7 358H with no RAM (I’ve sourced 16 GB, since it’s enough for me; when the prices go down, I’ll probably be getting 32 or 64 gigs) and no SSD (got the SN7100 1TB), black bezel although contemplating getting the transparent black one, blank ANSI keyboard, power adapter, 2x USB-A, 3x USB-C all Graphite.

I hope they won’t mix up my blank keyboard with the clear keyboard, as they did in earlier batches. I also thought of getting the orange one since it looks clean, but I like to maintain an image of a (tech-/) weirdo, so. Also learning new layouts is on my list, so that’s cool.

I’m gonna go with my daily driver - Arch with my Hyprland config, so nothing new there; zram will have to be configured though. I would also like to explore NixOS, but a little bit later.

Really hope it ships as early as possible, but we’ll see

Ah interesting, and yeah I agree that is my one gripe with Noctalia as well, but I never get the time to properly setup full keyboard environment

I’m curious if you have tried the “official” tips for lowering power draw on Hyprland? Performance – Hyprland Wiki

I’m also sorta tempted to give Omarchy a spin, at least to get a few tips on if full keyboard navigation with shell works for me, then switching back to Cachy and trying a similar setup. I’ve used vanilla Arch also for years, but Cachy just does so much right that I probably won’t go back to vanilla. Anyways, let me not derail the thread further haha

I’ve tried omarchy and feel like I could potentially get behind it for the keyboard shortcuts, but the idea of running vibe coded qt shell (both are bloated) doesn’t help their case for me.

I’ve never tried to make it consume less power since I’d be lying if I didn’t say I liked the eye candy, and part of the reason why mine runs at a slightly higher power draw is because of the extra eye candy setups I’ve been adding. At 8w with 80% battery max cap I still get estimated just shy of 9h (30% brightness).

I’m sure you can get more performance via hyprland tuning, but I’m gonna skip that for now. My hyprland isn’t the most bloated thing on my system

Fellow weirdo here, I wish I could go all blanks as it looks super clean and people will constantly be like WTF is wrong with this guy which is yay! But unfortunately with a wife that fingertypes and already disapproves my Dygma Defy buy a few years ago, I’ll have to stick with a a regular one.

Getting the 325/32GB variant with black translucent bezel, gray/orange keyboard for myself. I wanted to go for more colour but I’ll be using this computer in front of high-end clients so I I have to keep things professional.

I was also lucky to find a 32GB module on ebay today for about $675 CAD, so I’ll likely be removing the one from my pre-order once that comes in. Who knows, they might even ship the PC out earlier since no RAM contingency!

I’ll be running Omarchy. Previously was on Cachy/Noctalia with Hyprland, but I am just loving all the community plugins that continue to grow in the Omarchy marketplace. It certainly is more keyboard centric than Noctalia was, as least for me. Running on a Samsung Galaxy Book 6 Pro right now is costing about 7W on average for power usage.

I’m impatiently waiting for my i5 with 32GB of RAM, but I’m hoping that my 32GB Ramaxel stick will work with an E0 interposer. I got it for about $450 so hopefully it’ll be a huge saving.

I suspect it’ll work just fine.
