Hey everyone, I’m in the same batch 14 boat and excited for it. X7 and 32GB pre-built and delivery to the UK.
Seems like a lot of batches are compressed into October, I see batch 10 only got their ‘prepare for delivery’ emails less than a week ago. So I think end of October is realistic for us.
Batch 16 here. Yeah I think they are finalizing a new batch each new week as a general, but from what I’ve seen depending on your region you might get the email up to two weeks later than the first ones of your batch. We have to keep our fingers crossed it won’t get delayed
Ordered 32GB, got dropped to 16GB, and just now boosted back to 32GB. Paying $600 for memory instead of the $439 originally quoted is painful, but these days that could have been a lot worse. Mostly I’m wishing ill will toward all the awful AI companies.
16 gig should be OK, but with little room only, depending on what your apps are.
F44 KDE is my daily OS, eats +/- 6 gig after startup, with my autostart apps loaded running with approximately 10 gig used (F44 KDE, NextCloud client, Bitwarden client, QBZ, and firefox with 10 tabs open).
16 gig seems to be the minimum those days, 32 if your want heavy apps such as video editing, 64 if you plan any local AI or VMs
In this economy 64 GB is like a whole house, guess VMs and AI gonna have to wait or be streamed.
EDIT: For context I have been running a 5 yr old Precision 7560 with 64GB ram and consistently hit 30-50% usage at semi idle meaning no heavy things running.
Some forecast (maybe made up to keep stock high ?) say until at least late 2028, maybe 2030.
I’m curious how long we’ll have to wait for those humanoid robots to be kidnapped to steal their RAM and storage (I know it’s unlikely compatible with our laptops; but do the robbers know ?).
If people steal copper cables worth 11 EUR/kg, what about chips at 200 EUR/gram ?
