FW12 Batch 0 Guild

I agree.

I don’t think so either(at least after previous heated conversation and rethink a lots), I do think framework should learn from these two experiences. Sending a mail or making a blog post for updates when something went wrong would help ease a lots of frustration.

Add: the things that fuel my frustration is that the canned response that gave me in first and second e-mail when I asked the status of framework 12, I think the third one is the proper response and it’s a pretty good response.

ā€œThanks for contacting Framework Support.

We truly appreciate your support as a Batch 0 participant. We truly understand how important transparency is, especially for those of you who generously contributed to the Hack Club donation to be part of this early group.

As of now, Batch 0 is still scheduled to ship in June, though we haven’t been given a specific shipping date just yet. At this point, there are no new updates or indications of further delays. If anything changes, please rest assured we will notify you right away, as we’ve done with previous shipment updates. Keeping you informed is part of our standard process.

We understand the wait has been long, and we truly appreciate your patience and commitment to the Framework mission. We’re excited to get these systems into your hands soon and will continue to keep you posted as we get closer.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Once again, thanks for your support. Have a wonderful day!
Regards,
Framework Supportā€

At this point I’d say they should either use more loose language to temper expectations in the beginning or at the very least make a blog post about the shipping situation when they realize it’s not going as planned.

The fact that they still have ā€œShips early Juneā€ up on the website is an indication that they weren’t paying attention to that.

That’s that last point I’m making on the subject because it’s becoming exhausting.

Everything seems go smoothly now, review is up and framework 12 is a fantastic device.

Framework has their space to improve and I have my impatience and easily get frustrated need to address.

Batch 1 here, can ya’ll update when you get the next email/it charges you? I’m trying to get a gauge of what the 4-21 day estimate really is lol

Sure, I will give the update when charged.

I was hoping folks would start to report having been charged by the end of the week. I guess the wait continues, lol. Unless they sneak the charges in this weekend, I bet it will be early next week.

So I am in batch 2 and was hoping mine would ship in July, early july… (my birthday is later in the month…) am I SOL considering batch 0 hasn’t been charged yet for you guys?

I am eagerly awaiting the shipping notice. I am not concerned about cpu power, in fact I bought the i3 version to try to squeeze some more battery life. I am hoping to use it to take notes and for light general-purpose usage. Will see how it goes.

As someone using under powered arm based computers for a while, I can tell you that performance is a bit overrated. Even the most weakest, spec wise, computer are more than capable for 99% humanities computing needs.

My guess is that your i3 will be more than enough. I got the i5 because I just wanted the additional cores/threads.

I don’t expect the battery life on it to be crazy good or anything, but I’m fairly confident that it’ll be enough for me.

considering i’m just using mine for notes and art it should be more than enough for that. i do have other computationally intensive tasks but thats what my workstation and 16 are for

It’s dependent on a lot of factors. But with previous launches, once production got up to speed and batches started shipping, there was generally a week or so between batches. Sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less.

Yep, I agree. Before I got the 13", I was using chromebooks, and they were fine for my light use case. I still am rocking my 11th gen 13, along with the higher cpu 16. The 12" is really intended for light use so I saved some cash and went with the i3. I currently am running CachyOS on an expansion card that I swap between the 13" and the 16". The plan is to use that card in the 12" as well. I haven’t decided yet what to put on the nvme. The other machines have arch but I have been pretty happy with CachyOS so I may put that on there, or possibly Fedora. Decisions, decisions.

Same here. As I want to run some VMs I need cores

I will have to see how VMs do on the i3. I have passed through the nvme to VMs on the 13" and 16" when running from the expansion card, and it was fine. It’ll be interesting to compare how the 12" does.

ā€œAs usual, the fan noise is pretty noticeable when the hardware temperature rises, and I wouldn’t recommend you using this thing on your lap.ā€

Just read this in an engadget review, and it’s spooked me a little bit…

Since my primary use case is on my lap… so I really need to see how the i3 does when browsing the web, google docs etc because if that gets warm then it’s a dealbreaker much as I love the form factor

I 100% plan on using this on my lap, guess I’ll find out if the plastic will melt. Still better than how hot a metal chassis gets

The vents are in the back, so hopefully that’ll help :]

That is very cool! So no problem with running one install on different hardware?
