This thread is for people who pre-ordered the Framework Laptop 12 as Batch 1 to discuss something. Historically, there were such threads on this forum such as these Laptop 16’s guild threads. If you don’t see your Batch N thread, I would recommend you to create the “FW12 Batch N Guild” thread newly!
I predicted that there would be a section for Stylus Pen where I could select the color on the configuration page. But there was no such section. I wanted to select gray color laptop + a green color stylus pen ideally.
I am hoping to have the US orders open up soon, as the tarrif war agreements are seemingly moving forwards. I am pretty excited about this! Such a great in-field device.
Honestly, same. I do think the’yll have the replacement styluses for sale later, but for now matching color-to-color on the orders, even DIY’s.
I am curious on battery life with the touchscreen and Intel processor, and if there’ll be an AMD one in the future. @Coolermaster you wanna make more mainboard cases?
Looks like pens are on a separate page? I pre-ordered a Bubblegum for me and Sage for wife. Is it possible to change out modules and hold place in the pre-order queue?
I preordered one (DIY i5, sage - in batch 1 for sage/lavender/bubblegum, the batches are separate for those and for black/gray) and yes, you can make changes afterwards without losing your place in whatever batch you’re in
(and pens will be available “later”, there’s a form where you can ask to get notified. Hopefully that’s before batch 1 ships!)
My order is also in, and I missed the stylus selection… hopefully it will ship together if we add the stylus later. I intend to get 2-4(exists?)TB SSD somewhere locally in Germany. Sage color looks fantastic!
US here, so idk about local shops near you in Germany - but 4TB exists with both Samsung 990 Pro/Evo as well as Western Digital’s WD_BLACK (who also has 8TB!) If it’s a main device, go for the 4. If money is no issue grab that 8TB otherwise, the 2TB is more than plenty.
I think I found it. Go to orders, view order, then click edit where expansion cards are. You’ll see an expand arrow next to where it says FAQ. Click that and you can modify your options.
Oh wow that’s great! Much more streamlined than before (I think I modified my AMD upgrade for my FW13 and changed the RAM, had to contact support back then).
Guess now I just gotta hope Batch 1 exists for slightly longer than this tarrif war to join you all!
Ordered one as well. i3 is enough for me, as I will primarily use it for travelling and mostly only need to login to cloud environments, so not much storage (will bring my own) and RAM needed.
Price (esp. without VAT) is acceptable, although I was hoping for it to be lower. Weight is a bit on the high side as well. Oh well.
I had expected it to be part of the base model (be it DIY or pre-built), meaning included in the price. I guess we have to order (and pay for) it separetly later…
Honestly, that’s to be expected for a beefy shell for durability and not targeting the ultrabook-style. Not great for lugging around a lot, but field work and moving around a LOT (less desk work) it looks to be an amazing niche that only older laptops have really been able to fill, even then with terrible performance
It’s not really an issue, but it would have been nice if the weight had been around/less than 1 kg. I travel regularly, so carrying less weight makes it easier, esp. since I’m not in my twenties anymore.
Having a framework laptop however is more important to me then an ultra light, so Saul Goodman.
Wanted bubblegum but went with gray as it is Batch1 and estimated shipping in June.
Might swtich to bubblegum in the next few days, we’ll see.
Basic i3 and bring your own RAM/SSD. Went full out with extension cards. Learned from my FW13 - shipping later on is just too expensive for just a single card. Picked up anything I could need immediately. Situation might have change though… have to look up shipping again. My experience is a few years back now.
Bummed that pen is not available right now. Again will depend on shipping costs if I’ll get one.
Don’t like:
no backlit keyboard
1.3kg is heavy as travel companion
Love:
360° + touch
rugged chassis material + colorway options
hopeful for a backlit keyboard option in the future
know of no other laptop where a mainboard upgrade in the future is realistic
